Shenny really didn't have a choice, as Di said earlier, damned if he did and damned if he didn't. The look on his face said it all.

A cruel way to lose but Terry is right, "if we keep putting ourselves in that position" we will come out on top eventually.

Not sure about that. I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but I was shouting at him to leave it cos all he needed to do was stand between the ball and the line and wait for Mcguire to touch the ball then smash him, he would have had every chance of preventing the try from being scored.

He was out of play, if McGuire did touch the ball, he would have then been offside. The resulatant penalty would've been the same.

Sorry, just re-read your post.

If he'd actually retired behind where the ball was last touched, he would have been onside and could've picked it up.

It's all coulda, woulda, shoulda and none actually happen in real time.

ATEOTD I was expecting a right tw*tting after seeing our defence in recent weeks. I'm not going to call out any of them for that game. one last gasp dropped ball and one offside decision. Lady luck won it tonight, nowt else, and Leeds were the beneficiaries. I'd certainly have taken it had it been the other way round.

I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying.

No it wouldn't. You can't bring yourself back onside like that.

Of course you can bring yourself back on side like that. How on earth is any player therefore ever onside if they find themselves in front of a kicker.

You allow the kicker to go past you and then you are immediatly on side to make a tackle or get the ball. The exact same thing applies here.

If and by no means am i suggesting he did this, but he retreats behind the back foot of sherwin then he is coming from an onside position.

In all reality if Shenton had done this i think Mcguire would have had ample time to pass the ball and score the try. Therefore i agree with mattersons comments in as much as he had no option.

Why did'nt sherwin just get up when he lost it and try to retrieve the ball.
He just looked with shock on his face.

he propabaly was in shock, one of thos times when the world just stands still...Was wainwright onside? as he seemed to just about to get to the ball before shenton picked it up..but even then Leeds get a scrum smack under sticks. Sherwin should have hoofed it out of the ground but, give him credit he realized will had no fullback in place and dropped back, then as I said had 1 of those moments when the world just stops.
That was the most painful lose's since London broncos in SF of Challange IMO, A passionate game ended with a stinker.
