Brett Ferres : Wed Mar 03, 2010 10:42 am
Meanwhile, Matterson expects to be without back-rower Ferres for up to two months after he injured his collarbone against Hull KR.

Cas' medical staff are awaiting a specialist's report, but the coach said: "He will definitely be out this week. It doesn't look good, we are talking a minimum of six to eight weeks – and it could be more."

Fellow pack man Dean Widders is still four or five weeks away from a comeback following knee surgery, but winger Kirk Dixon has recovered from a blood clot in a leg and is likely to come into the squad for Friday's trip to Hull.

Oh well, four games in and that's three long term injuries to key players, plus Sherwin not being fit...

Minus the youngsters who don't seem to feature in TM's short term plans, how many players does that leave us with? 18?

It bemuses me as to why Thompson and Davies have been sent out on loan, especially now we have 3 long term injury victims. Surely with Ferres and Widders out, Davies would be required, what if another back rower picked up an injury, we would be stumped.

They're on dual-contracts, not loans.

They will still train (and be available to play for) Cas.

Only if Cas don't need them in a given weekend will they play for York.

Bugger. That means we have only two good second rowers, jones and snitch. On the plus side the fact that widders will be back relativly soon and dixon being fit is a boost. I think in the not too distant future the likes of thompson, arundel, davies and massey are going to have to stand up and be counted.

Was it Ferres that got taken out in the build up to your first try?

Yes, whether he was purposely taken out i don't know, but it was the lead up to the first try that he got the injury.

I watched the game on telly and missed the team selections, and tbh I didnt think he was playing as I never heard his name mentioned. Then when I watched the tries an all bit on Sky they mentioned his name just seconds before somebody got flattened. KR dont purposely take people out just ask Brad Drew, he had time to boil an egg before he was flattened.

Now we know what Hull FC had been going through for 2008 and 2009 with their many injuries.

The only difference is that we won't have it used as an excuse for our defeats by Sky or the wider media
