Player Development : Fri Mar 05, 2010 8:11 am
Is it just me that reads threads like the "sherwin replacement" and instantly my blood boils?

Why can't we develop our own players for this position, or any other position you'd care to mention? I hear all the nonsense about players being too young, not big enough etc etc....

The Sherwin example, for starters, hardly a man mountain is he? So it shouldn't take too long at all to get one of our lads up to his physical size. We have a young halfback that everyone was raving about last season, can't he do the job in a years time? Yes, virtually a whole year to develop him!!! A huge amount of work can be done in that time .

Ahh, but they are too young some may say? Well, lets take a promising young lad, lets say, a certain 18yr old and pack him off to HKR---whats this? He's a first team regular within 6 months? And what? He's playing in the pack too? WOW, how did they do that? he's far too young (according to the Cas book of bullshit coaches)

So we have Westy and Owen for the past few years, Shenny before that and Chubbs a bit before him. All the others have gone............

Why can't we develop enough of our own players? :FRUSRATED:

Really we want a replacement for sherwin so we can use brierly as cover that way we dont rush him and end up damaging his development by putting the entire responsibility of guiding the team round (and we do need cover in the halfs). As we all know we have supporters that would be quite happy to boo a young kid if he has a few bad games and that will knock his confidence.

As for watts as i understand it he was released due to the fact that he was leading westy astray.

Get Thompson back and put him in for Wainwright. I don't care that wainwright "tries 100%". He's crap, slow, runs in treacle, has a dreadful positional side to his game, plays with fire in defence and scores no where near enough tries for a "winger".

Learn about the game before you post crap like that, Wainwright is better positionally then Dixon, by some distance, solid in defence, wins a LOT of penalties scores a few tries, isn't slow...at all (although his awareness isn't the best at times), Thompson was caught of position every time when he got the start against Bradford last year.

I know about the game, my most frequent saying is "Wainwright GET BACK" on the opposing last tackle. Hahaha so you're judging Thompson after 1 game. Good 'un.

OK, lets look at another way. We bring players with a reputation over to play for us, they will be a good influence on the youngsters so we are told, so we can bring our crop of youngsters through into the first team......this is how its supposed to work isn't it? So here we are, 3 year big bucks contract up this year and we still don't have anyone considered good enough (by the club)to play in the halves....this is staggering, its pathetic

We need cover in the halves now, we have nothing to lose by using this season to DEVELOP a player like Brierley, who would benefit greatly, and be more prepared for next season, it really is a no brainer :WALL:

As for Watts, what is it about HKR then? They have developed a quality forward from a young lad that our set up allegedly couldn't control? What does it say of the set up at HKR compared to ours?

This thread is about player development.

I honestly believe TM as taken players like westerman/shenton backwards.
These players wont be at cas next season, you can include owen in that as well.
All will be playing for other clubs....we need drastic change asap or they will be gone.

HAHAHA comment of the day. Shenton's gone backwards? He's an England international centre! Westerman wasn't even in the Cas side when TM took over and is a damn good player. And he's looked pretty impressive this year. If Westerman and & Shenton won't be at Cas next season then Cas will be receiving a hell of a lot of money their way, which in this current climate I can't see clubs paying £'s for players.

I thought he had 1 more year after this one. Owen is out of contract however.
