You come at the king - You better not miss.

It ain't what you takin', it's who you takin' from, ya feel me? How you expect to run with the wolves come night when you spend all day sparring with the puppies?

Re: Jay Pitts : Sat Mar 17, 2012 8:21 pm
Eh? :?

He started 2 out of the last 3 games didn't he.

Pitts has started the previous 2, looked good against a poor Cas team and then was a non-factor against wire. That has always been the case IMO, looks ready to make the jump against poor opposition (Crusaders in the cup springs to mind) and then completely vanishes against better opposition.

Clarkson on the other hand looked much better when he started this weekend

He deserves an extended run in the team IMO. He didn't deserve to be dropped at the expense of Kirke.

If he was a prop I'd agree. Pitts was dropped in favour of Clarkson and we went with 3 props. That meant no room for another backrower on the bench

We're not far into a long season - why make such a big deal about someone being "dropped" for a game that we won comfortably. It's better that plenty of the squad get game time now than only get thrown in only when we have an injury crisis.

Against a poor Salford team!!
Pitts did very little wrong if anything at all in his last 2 outings plus salford looked far worse than Cas did that does'nt mean i don't rate Clarkson because i do but your statement is very contradictory in the "looking good against poor opposition" context.

Yes I can see how that is contradictory

However the problem when clarson comes off the bench is a lack of quantity. To the naked eye he seemed to do more work. Whether thats down to more game time, starting, or the poor opposition I dont know. If he retains his place the real test will be against Saints and Hudders.

I like pitts he's a grafter and you can't have too many of them. But at this point I prefer Clarkson getting the starting role because in general when he starts, he plays better

Re: Jay Pitts : Sun Mar 18, 2012 10:48 am
Maybe with some big games coming up the coach wants to give each a chance to stake a claim for the vacancy left by JJB which means some rotation/resting. Until the Salford game Pitts , Clarkson and Hauraki had each played 3 games with Hauraki leading in all main stats.

Pitts had done enough in recent games to justify his selection ahead of Clarkson so I guess Clarkson was told impress against Salford if you want to make the team! Did it work? Hauraki offers by far the greatest impact of the three and not just for his error/penalties in the Wigan game so the other spot should be between Pitts and Clarkson!

Or as phil Clarke would say hauraki is leading in the KPI.

For me it shows how stats can be misleading. Hauraki looked good pre season but I would have both clarkson and Pitts above him in the pecking order
