Every player in our squad could probably earn more money with another club. But they prefer to sacrifice a few extra quid in their back pocket to share special memories. And playing at a place like Old Trafford on a night like this makes it all worthwhile.

Slef Service Checkouts are the spawn of evil and frankly, we (the public) are merely going through the testing process for them that they should have gone through before being let loose on the population.

You can't scan things too quickly and especially in the case of the Morrisons ones, the distance between the scanner is too far from the bags meaning that the infernal machine starts to kick off because you haven't got your stuff in to the carrier quick enough.

They also don't have the intelligence to understand that you might be buying enough gear to fill a second carrier, so you have to get the first carrier off before you can fill the second one. However, the machine works on weight and it knows how heavy your items are, thus complains if it can't feel what you've bought because you've taken the damm first bag off in order to fill the second one.

There's usually a member of staff who'd drawn a short draw of being there and is either rushed off her feet dealing with 4 problems at once or is chatting to her mate .... Either way, when you get the inevitable 'supervisor assistance required' warning you'll still have to wait around longer than if you'd have actually got in one of the queues to have your stuff run through the checkouts. You went to the self-service ones trying to delude yourself that it will be 'different this time' and they'll have got it right, only to fall in to the same old trap and see people who should have been well behind you in the getting-out-of-the-store stakes sailing past because the technology involved with self-service-checkouts is frankly cr*p and merely an excuse for supermarkets to lay off a few more highly paid check-out staff.

Don't get me on about their habitual failure to recognise BOGOFs or dented tins too, will you ....
With the greatest of respect haven't you just said being a checkout boy is beyond your abilities?

I think having a self service checkout at any shop in the Merrion Centre is simply begging the clientele to steal.

I wish they'd had them when I was a city of Leeds high. Lunchtimes would've been such fun.

How do you “dimple” a checkout? Does it involve using a hammer? If so, I’m with you, I’d dimple the lot of them.

Depends how strong your fingers are.

It's bloody good fun whichever way you do it.

What the hell do the ones at tescos mean when they say "Unexpected item int the bagging area". Its like it knew what I was going to buy before I scanned it, then taken offence thinking I'd put a different item in the bagging area!

What angers me more is a machine thanking me for "shopping at tescos". Well automated till im glad I made your day!

Leeds Rhinos? 8 for you, Leeds Rhinos! You go, Leeds Rhinos.

And none for Castleford Tigers. Bye!

Stop being so reactionary!

Once you get used to them, they speed things up enourmously, certainly if you've only got a few items.

Even if they hit some kind of error, the checkout person is able to sort it out speedily.

I was in tesco a few month ago around half past 8 in the morning. No one was on the checkouts and the woman said "just use the self service ones".

Where is the choice nowadays? I placed my items back on the shelves and told the woman I would use Sainsburys in future.

Call me old fashioned, but to be made to use these things does seem abit wrong.

I wonder how many low paid workers they will replace. But then the supermarkets are struggling to make profits...

This is my issue. I don't have the wing span for the Morrisons machines. Tesco and Sainsbury's, no problem.

I generally approve of these self-checkouts because it cuts down on the interaction I need to have with my fellow human beings and was pleased to see a similar machine in the post office the other day.

If the queues are too long and you’ve not got much shopping then make your way to the empty tobacco stand and they’ll happily serve you without having to wait in a big que. That’s what I always do anything’s because I can’t stand queuing.

Just try using them when you’ve got some alcohol or paracetamol or a sharp knife – frickin alarm bells start ringing and suddenly there’s half a dozen supervisors swarmed round you and you feel like a criminal.
