Good call.
I wonder if our current younger generation of fans realise just how good this current Leeds team and set up actually is. In addition I also wonder if they realise how unusual it is to have our consistently high expectations almost always being matched by performances on the field.
Heady days indeed!
I have seen some fantastic one-off performances from various Leeds teams during the 80's and early 90's and some palyers (not counting imports) that would add huge benefit to the current team - remember players like Roy Powell, Paul Dixon, Carl Gibson were in the last GB team to really match the Aussies (and a great Aussie team as well). In fact I'd say that in the last couple of years we have not seen rugby as skilfull as you could see back in those days. But the key phrase here is "one-off".
Consistancy was a word that had been ripped out of all dictionaries at Headingley. And at every level. From running the club, recruitment, youth development, coaching and playing staff. How did we ever expect the team to show consistancy when it wasn't present anywhere else off the field. We had a saying amongst my mates, it was our club mantra - "Leeds never fail to dissapoint". It was the only predictable thing about the club for 20 years. Somebody said it earlier, this team is greater than the sum of it's parts - too often it was the other way around in the past.
