I also collect shirts but I usually add to my collection by buying them, novel idea I know but I find it usually works better than begging strangers for their old shirts.

My solution has a couple of distinct advantages over your scrounging method in:

1) You’re more likely to get hold of a shirt you actually want.
2) You don’t come across as a sponging, cheapskate, suppliant tw@.

I have a 2005 shirt that has been on the floor and used as a pillow for many many drunken guests in my house over the years.

It's been thrown at people, hurled across the room, stamped on and possibly had sick all over it on many occasions, but as the saying goes "Beggers can't be choosers"

Pay for my taxi fare to meet you, and buy me a few pints, and the fantastic shirt can be yours

Have I sold the idea to you yet?
