Shouldn't have appealed, 3 games was about correct imo. He has now ended up with the same as Napa, whose tackle looked worse.

As a diversion from a Fev fan, here's a thread from our forum in 2017, eloquently entitled "Is Kendall a cheat?" https://www.totalrl.com/forums/index.ph ... l-a-cheat/ Fev had lost to Halifax a year earlier in a game refereed by Chris Kendall where Fax had been awarded a game-winning last minute penalty (on the intervention of a touch judge, btw). As you can see, there were a few Fev fans incensed by what they saw as a biased performance by Kendall in the game that provoked this thread. Our opponents that day? Leeds in the Challenge Cup. I remember that game very well. Leeds did get a few tight 50-50 calls, but basically outclassed us and thumped us 58-0. All I'll say is if you believe both sets of conspiracy theorists, that must have been a very trying day for Kendall, as there are to this day some Fev fans who think he's biased against us. The Peter Smith article is obviously really dismal, just pandering to the conspiracy theorists.

The article presents some facts, although they are selective in only focusing on Leeds and win/loss records. If the success rate for some referees looks especially favourable or negative, it would be interesting to see how those rates vary for the rest of the clubs in the competition for the same period.

Another way of looking at this would be to see the detailed statistics on penalties awarded, and for what sorts of indiscretions. This might give an insight into the sorts of penalties some referees are more likely to give, or if some clubs have an issue with particular rules (e.g. high shots and Catalans?).

Ultimately any trends from these kinds of analyses would be taken out of context so hard to draw final conclusions, although they could be useful tools in managing the performance of referees and players - no doubt the clubs and the RFL already look at something like this but a lot more sophisticated?
