| Quote Old Feller="Old Feller"Exactly, Wigan won a scrum against the put in vs Saints on Friday, shoukld have been penalised for a faulty scrum but not for pushing.
We used to do it occasionally some seasons ago but not much recently. A perfectly legitimate ploy in my view.'"
Burrow scored a try in Catalans in 2006 from a scrum won against the feed.

| Was a tactic we used under Graham Murray IIRC.

| An alternative ..
Line-out the players 10 metres either side of the nearest chalk line to where the scrum would have taken place , and have the ref roll the ball out along the line .
That could be interesting to watch . Guaranteed to be competitive , and no advantage to the taller players .

The advantage of a scrum is that by concentrating 12 of the biggest daftest lads (and the two smallest ones) in one place you create space away from the scrum for at least one tackle.

| I think it's a good attacking opportunity from a scrum base, keep 'em.

| Keep 'em but make them completely uncontested. Wigan took one against the head on good friday, but there were about 5 seperate infringements that the ref should have blown for in that one. It's a good way to restart the game, and lets both sides have a breather, but I don't want to see scrums being reset if people start pushing. It's boring, isn't it Rugby Union?

| I assume the people who think reintroducing contested scrums into rugby league were not around in the good old days of David Ward and Keith Bridges being sent off together (not for fighting - which would have been acceptable) but for persistent scrum infringements at Post Office Road one foggy day. Gerry Kershaw the Steve Ganson of his generation.
Rugby league scrums do not have enough players in them to make them stable, should we bring back the wing forwards too while we are at it and do the job right.

| We probably should. We probably should also replace blockbusting props like Peacock and Sam Burgess with short, fat little props with no skill other than to hold their own in the scrummage. That will help.

Sent off as in Red cards?
Bleeding hell what a farce, the only thing i'd like to change about scrums is the deliberate feeding between the prop and back-row.
Get into the channel and if you lose the strike tough i seem to remember Maskell been pretty good at this but i could be wrong.

Sent off as in sent off, no mamby pamby sin-bins, 10 digits waving in the air or searching for a coloured card to brandish just a demonstrative outstretched index finger pointing in the direction of the dressing sheds.

I remember the great scrum purge of the early 80's. I remember seeing both hookers being dismissed in the first half of a game by the referee, they walked off arm in arm laughing and joking. Got changed and headed straight to the bar to get drunk. What made it even worse was one of the replacement hookers was also sent off by the referee later on in the game as well.

I think it's alright now that you feed in the middle, and allowing to feed behind the props front leg, which I'd formally allow in the rules.
Remember, the scrum is awarded against a team because they did something wrong. Therefore you don't want to give them too much chance to win the ball back at the re-start.
