Can't help but notice, the last four coaches have all been sacked because of "poor perfomances" Is it just possible that the common denominator is the players are a fairly average lot !!

I think its part of the issue however one thing we have been consistent in is being inconsistent - even this years cohort have shown they can play to a high level but just not for long enough or consistently enough.

I'm really hoping BA is the man to give them the kick up the backside they need

It's not how much talent you've got, it's what you do with it that counts.

Re: For the live of god… Arthur out : Thu Jul 11, 2024 8:59 am
Agreed, I firmly believe that many of the players we have are not of the required standard, physically, mentally or both. The short cut culture reflects in the way the players are mentally, and this is what I expect BA to deal with quickly. He will straighten out our short cuts and explain what genuine hard work looks like. Poor performances will not be tolerated for long.

Why do so many people think that the players needs a kick up the bum?

I see a group of lads who try hard most weeks. I think our squad is too weak and gets exposed, and I think within that weakness we have suffered from a lack of clarity and some tactical numptiness (e.g. literally only Handley can take a decent carry out of backfield from all our back line, and yet we've persisted all year with getting our backs hammered for 5 tackles and then kicking from our own 40). They are very low on confidence.

I think they need some clarity. Some discipline at times of course, but I don't think what we've seen on the field this year is a result of a lack of effort or application. Having said that, I don't think BA would put up with some of Newman's antics for example - I was livid at that again against London, where it seemed the player decided for himself he was going to stay out on the field, despite the fact he was a liability in defence and should actually have cost us the game.

Think ive not explained the kick. Up the bum properly.

It’s not lack of effort that they lack it’s attention to detail they lack

My worry is that players with a chronic lack of attention to detail are always likely to replicate that behaviour under pressure. You can drill that kind of metronomic behaviour into kids but sadly some of our most senior players seemed to have their bad habits deeply ingrained. Will need to be some tough decisions re selection, retention, and recruitment made yet again.

Agree with this too. We are just so sloppy at times and you'd imagine if certain players were going to get the basics, they'd have them by now.

I keep see-sawing between thinking we just need 3 more key players, to wanting to change half the squad. I have defended RS to a degree on here but looking objectively, only McDonnell and Croft have been definite wins from all the recruitment he's done while at Leeds in my view, with honourable mentions for Miller, Ackers and Ruan. Hudson we don't know about yet. The rest either haven't worked or haven't progressed the team.

I rate Miller and think he will be better if the team performs better. Ackers is simply struggling with our lack of go forward I’m hoping if BA can get some discipline and get the team playing more direct Ackers will benefit hugely.

I'm not sure bombarding him and trying to exert pressure on him to stay with endless questions about extending his stay after the end of the season is the right way to go in his first press conference. Let the fella settle in !!
