| Quote Once were Loiners="Once were Loiners"To be fair Ruan wouldn't be the first player 'rejected' as a kid who later made it, particularly in the forwards. There have been a few ex-Leeds juniors who've done well elsewhere, including Wakefield.
Hooley looks physically the part. I understand your point about pressure, but I guess we'll see - Smith seems very keen on bringing in younger players he can work with. Seems to be just a rumour at the moment anyway and the article I read suggested the bigger issue may be that he has a job and Leeds are unlikely to offer him enough to go full time in RL.'"
This is true, my point is more that these players tend to leave Leeds and do well at clubs like Wakefield, this way around is unusual.
It was no surprise to anyone when Hooley was let go, Ruan was different, he was offered a deal but rejected it as not being enough. What this shows is that Trinity have finally sorted out their development if our 'rejects' are being picked up by SL clubs. We have always supplied huge numbers of 'rejected' players for the lower leagues but not SL.

Ruan rejected a contract from Wakefield, so they're the rejects, not him

Not quite, they offered him what they thought he was worth, he rejected that and asked for more. We rejected that request and made him a free agent. Truth is I don't think he was expecting that, but that's how Trinity works, set amount available, no negotiations, not out of choice but necessity. Not popular with fans but what is?

He was offered a reserve contract at a very low annual salary and he never asked for more he wanted to play regular Rugby which wasn't guaranteed in reserve grade so he had offers from league 1 & championship and chose Doncaster as he seen it as best option.

| Quote vastman="vastman"Strange signings, both Trinity rejects.
FWIW Hooley will never be a SL player. He’s talented but struggles under pressure. He never looked close whilst on our books and at that point we were a top 6 side.
Ruan is different. However so far he’s only ever looked good against second string opposition. So far he’s only been boys against boys. All the same if he can bring that to the top table and improve you could be on a winner.
Word of caution though. Ruan seems to have a very vocal band of family and friends. They seem to hype him up at every chance. Nothing wrong with that, but if you got that description from someone then I’m pretty sure that’s where it emanates from.'"
Could bite you on the arris re Hooley. He’s a much more mature and accomplished player now. Be nice to see him make it at the top table

| I’ve taken a look at Hooleys performances in highlights and he’s very strong and a great link player coming in from the back and a foil for the defence with a great passing game. His defensive positioning I have my doubts but guess he’s a project. He reminds me a lot of a young Zak without his raw speed

He’s much faster than he looks. He has outstanding balance and just seems to glide along the pitch.

So did ET, let's not get carried away with him...
He seems a good prospect but is completely unproven at this level and is a gamble like all younger players when they are asked to step up.

| Nene Mcdonald from Leigh seems a goer, if so almost certainly the end for Sutcliffe. It seems more and more likely that RS does not want Sutcliffe for next season and is free to leave early.

| Well what a surprise, said no one, ever. Good bit of business if it means Nene MacDonald comes in to replace him.
