Why would you waste money and a quota spot on a winger? The only position we've less need for is hooker if Parcell stays.

Another thing this year has shown is that we need a viable backup for whoever starts at 6/7. You can't claim to have backup of the likes of Sutcliffe who simply isn't up to it. If nobody is ready from the Academy we might need to sign someone on DR, but we can't be in a position again where if our 6 or 7 is injured we are guaranteed to lose. Mind you, we might be able to have done better this year if our 6 was actually a stand off.

Indeed. IIRC in 2004 we had Dunneman hanging around to back up McGuire and Burrow, not to mention Sinfield in the team.

If Lilley's off on loan and Sutcliffe can't cut it, we really are down to the bare bones. Assuming Moon is leaving, but not sure he's the right kind of player we need either.

The simple answer is still sign a top stand off, and play our new guy in the centres who can fill in at stand off if needed or the first choice is injured.

Lolohea is a 1 or 6. That's why we signed him, presumably to play 6. He's not a centre. If we want a reserve halfback we should sign one.

He’s a far better centre than we have besides Watkins.

Maybe, but never having seen him play there I couldn't be sure. Having seen him play wing, full back and both halfback roles he's better than Walker at full back and Moon at 6.

In any event we signed him for 1 or 6. If you want a reserve halfback sign one. If you want a centre, sign one (or keep Moon).

But you don't really go with a reserve half back of sufficient quality, unless you have a quality youngster pushing through. Moon was our back up when at centre, and that was fine. It was the pushing him into the role full time that became an issue, both for the stand off role and the centre role.

If you have a centre or fullback who can sufficiently perform the back up half role, you have cracked it.

Not sure if it has been reported but Charlie Gubb has signed for Widnes.
Maybe Sinfield is watching how he goes before making a bid for him for next season or someone better.
