Both Linnet and Coote are Non Federation Trained. Their Scottish ancestry/passports doesn't come into it. http://www.rugby-league.com/operational ... 2018/#p=44 No more than 7 Non Fed trained players in the 19 man squad allowed. You've currently got 6 with some rumoured to go so you have room to bring some in I reckon.

I see Bateman is going to Canberra on a 3 year deal from 2019. Obviously we couldn't have got him, if his challenge is NRL, but it means Wigan will also likely be in the hunt for any decent back rowers.

If we went for Hastings for 2019 that makes it even more weird that we didn't seemingly make a play for him for the end of this year.

As for Linnett being Newlove-esque, give me a break - he's far more likely to follow the trajectory of Brett Delaney. He's a slow centre who's played a bit of second row. He really isn't that good, although no doubt better than what we have today.

The 'spin' on Griffin hasn't just come from the Panthers, but from a number of former players. I agree he's unlikely to be as bad as has been made out, but would you want any coach who seemingly has similar issues to those which contributed to BM's demise if there is an alternative?

Get that, but you have to take the words of dumped players like Segeyaro and Soward with a pinch of salt.
His results at Penrith cannot be questioned. He's taken them from wooden spoon to a real premiership contender in 3 years, bringing through 16 juniors in that time.

Penrith has always been a hotbed for junior talent, but the system and focus on juniors that has churned out first graders was put together by Gould when he went back there. I'm not arguing that Gould and co have spun things but there's also no doubt that there are some genuine issues with Griffin as well. He admitted himself that he messed up with Matt Moylan, who should have been a star there for years to come.

Whilst I've no doubt Griffin is a good coach in some ways, my query is that some of the issues that have been talked about with Griffin were ones suggested as problems with McDermott - wanting evreything his own way, refusal to delegate etc.
