At his peak he was but not anymore

He's only 29.

People seem to love to say Watkins is part it, but as others have said he's not even 30.

Watching him now it's clear he's the best Centre in SL by a mile. He'll be the first name in England team sheet. How many international standard players do we have at Leeds?

Yep aware of his age but he’s not played at his peak for a long time. He was fantastic and I hope he re discovers it.

Will be interesting to see how he sees out his career. Will he return to his best or slowly / quickly fizzle out of the game.

I always rated Watkins highly but never thought he was as good as others did.For me we were right to move him on and use the considerable amount of cap space to improve in other areas.

How have we used Watkin's salary to improve the team. Are we really any better now?

Better than when he left, yes we are.



Not that I'm putting that down to him leaving mind.

No better at centre, that's for sure. We're paying Hurrell more than Watkins was on!

But we had both Hurrel and Watkins in the same squad.

Who do you think represents better value for Money, Newman or Watkins (who would now be on marquee status?)

I like Watkins and met him a few times as I'm sure others on here have , he always came across really well . In the end though when he left he was , due to the injury a shadow of his former self , so on that Hurrell was better value . Now as above you have to compare Watkins to Newman as Hurrell is under contract as he was then .



Watkins had a good pre-season by all the reports I read and he is better than the player that left us



Will he get back to his best , maybe and I hope he does , just hopefully when he's not playing against us . We have a salary cap to deal with and yes I would say Watkins in is prime is better than Hurrell in his prime (yes I like Hurrell too) , but when Watkins left that wasn't the circumstances we had .

Too many fans see Hurrell through rose tinted glasses.

For every plus point there is a negative.

Not really a marquee player

At least we all know when hurrell is playing,not something you could not say about Watkins (in his latter years at least). I agree on the marquee point,although to me it's very difficult to justify all that money unless you are a truly world class pivot in your pomp.

The trouble is we and most teams in SL could never really afford the true ‘marquee’ players due to the stadium build etc and probably the lack of money in general in the game over here. It’s fair to say Hurrell isn’t a true marquee player but that no way means he’s not been a very good addition which he has.

Agreed Also, I do think people don't quite get the Marquee rule it doesn't mean tyou have to pay top dollar it just means you get an exemption on the amount you are paying them

Agree completely.There is no comparison between us and the Aussies financially. We cannot compete. I personally think for what we needed when we brought him and what we are going to need in the next year or so I personally think he's a good signing for the club.

The playing aspect is only one reason for signing someone. I know Koni is a bit of a cheerleader, but given how drab our last few years have been, he’s a breath of fresh air...

Korbin is run of the mill in comparison.

Korbin would be a decent signing, he's not as good as Tariq, but he's 28, so he's at a decent age and is better than what we have.
