It was Mclennan speaking to the press not me.

Mclennan was pretty effusive about how well he thinks Smith will go at centre. he didn't have to use terms like represent England there.

The fact the intention to play Smith at centre was announced shortly after Soliola gave backword is open to interpretation.

McClennan is hardly going to come out in the press and say we have a weakness at right centre - surely.

Or maybe he thought Webbs injury was far worse than it turned out and his original plan was to play Smith at FB.
When the Soliola deal fell through he then goes for plan B .

can't see it. leeds said when the injury happened webb should be back by easter at the very outside

Oh right wasn`t aware of that one.
Then again he also said he thought Webbs injury might have been career threatening.
Thankfully that`s not the case.
