Intake was a half-decent school when I went there .
But that was way back in the good old days of Charlie Gardener , when the teachers were allowed to discipline the pupils .
Back in those days there were very few kids that would dare to cause the disruption to classes that is so commonplace nowadays .
ANY even slight misdemeanor was dealt with swiftly and painfully . If the teacher that was taking the class couldn't handle you they would send you to another one who could .
I remember me and a mate were once sent on an errand by a teacher at dinner-time . This involved entering the school building . One of the teachers (metalwork , Mr Whitley ) was on corridor patrol . He stopped us and caned us both on both hands and sent us back outside . He never gave us a chance to explain why we were inside . Later in the day we were both called to Charlie's office and got caned again for failing to complete the errand .
Imagine that happening nowadays . Heads would roll .
