Fat people are harder to kidnap.

Re: Fighting in the Leeds end. : Sun Oct 07, 2012 7:37 am
I had plenty to drink yesterday - so did most of the people with us. We enjoyed the game and had a great day with not a sniff of trouble.

Sadly there will always be one or two that have a few drinks and think they're 10 men.

You will never be able to ban drinking at games as most of it happens before folk get into the ground. I don't know what the answer is, better trained stewards maybe or at least more vigilant but banning drinking completely is not the answer.

Anyone caught being a dick should be banned from ALL future sporting events. Have a combined register that crosses all major sports may help, although not infallible.

Meanwhile our community club tickets were in the Leeds end and one of our lads got beat up before kick off and ended up in hospital.

The RFL allocated ends so surely common sense would say that they gave the tickets out for the right end! That said, the one fight we did see was between a group of lads in the same group!

Sorry to hear about your lad getting hurt, that's appalling.

The allocation of ends though. How were the RFL supposed to know who'd be there in the final. Would you have had more or less drama with Saints fans?

We had a bunch of Leeds fans near us in the West 2nd tier - mostly well behaved and just supporting their team but a few who spent large parts of the game stood up and gesticulating to the Wire fans behind him. He was very lucky that he didn't find any trouble, although when someone did have a go at him he reported it to the stewards and had him removed!

Was your lad that ended up in Hospital the lad in the Wire away shirt by chance? If so that was a bloody horrible fight and I hope he is ok!

That fight was sickening. We were sat just a couple of blocks away from it and whatever that Wire fan did surely didn't warrant that! There was a lad in a pink t-shirt that gave him about 10 uppercuts whilst he was being held and somehow managed to stay in the ground which was appalling.

The one thing I always note about the trouble at GF's is a lot of the people involved aren't wearing colours. The Wire fan was but the other group involved could have been supporters of anyone.

Re: Fighting in the Leeds end. : Sun Oct 07, 2012 9:10 am
I'm honestly not surprised. Some people act like complete ignorant..well, I won't use the words that go through my mind, but there were a fair few I'd like to have beaten, had I not been a good person. Yesterday directly in front of myself and my 10 year old sister was a man (Leeds fan) smoking without a care in the world, and blowing the smoke back towards us. She has asthma and shouldn't be around it in such close proximity. We complained to a steward but the man saw him coming, died out the cigarette and stood on it, then lied to the steward. The same man also carried cans of beer in a plastic bag and was drinking it with a friend. The lids from our Pepsi bottles were taken yet he managed to smuggle beer? Bullshit.

Second, as Hall scored that last try someone above us through a half empty bottle of beer - you know, that same alcohol that you can't have in the seating area? - and my sister and I ended up with beer on us, and we're glad the actual bottle didn't hit us.

Third, a man a few rows in front of us decided to spend the majority of the pre-game entertainment and first half stood up, despite others asking him to sit down, making it impossible for my young sister to see, even when she stood us for a while, which obviously got tiring and an annoyance to those behind her.

Completely selfish.... ruin the gameday experience, they should all be banned. I'm all for drinking in moderation, banning alcohol isn't the answer, but stewarding should be a lot tougher. How is it possible to smuggle in cans of alcohol? How are people bringing bottles up to the seating area? The tops are taken off so it's not like they can be hidden in a bag to sneak past the stewards. I'm not surprised fights are breaking out when people are being so ignorant to others - there are those out there who will do anything for a fight, and there are people who will push all their buttons to make it happen. All ridiculous. And I didn't have a sniff of trouble from Wire fans.

Let all the doubters keep doubting and those who believe keep believing.

We’re only interested in those in the bubble. Anyone who wants to come in the bubble, you can come in.

But you’ve got to keep believing.

Re: Fighting in the Leeds end. : Sun Oct 07, 2012 9:16 am
I can't remember anything in 04 but since 05 I've been advancing up the ticket price scales in an attempt to just get in a relatively subdued part of the Leeds half of the stadium. There are just too many pissheads around on both sides, regardless of who plays. That year when a Saints fan nearly ended up going over the railing from the upper tier was probably the worst.

There is also always a fair bit of excess verbal jousting around the chip shop at at the top of the road leading up to the tram station - this was particularly so when the Leeds-Saints rivalry was at its peak. That fell away in the later years and our relationship with the Wire seems relatively benign. I dread to think though what would happen if our South Stand drunken féckwits ever encountered Wigan's flag waving hooligan wannabes at a GF.

I agree that the community tickets should not be in either Kop end, those ends should be allocated to the fans of the two competing teams. Community club tickets should be down the sides, many of those attending on these tickets are juniors and placing them down the sides would keep them out of harms way while also creating a neutral zone between the fans of the clubs involved in the final.

Where we were seated there was a large amount of trouble between Leeds fans, at least 6 totaly unrelated seperate incidents. They started a good 30 minutes before kick off and periodically broke out throughout the night, it was disgraceful.

If we arrange a club trip again we'll be buying the most expensive tickets, that will definitely mean we take less people but we won't expose the young lads to such a volatile atmosphere and put them in harms way ever again.
