The only proven NRL coaches out of work at the moment are Geoff Toovey and Ivan Cleary. One of those will probably be taking the NZ Warriors job within a couple of week because they're underperforming even more than we are.
After that, you're into the realms of gambling on "promising assistants" who could be a Maguire or could be a Sandercock.
I would look in to getting Brian Smith in until the end of the season - not necessarily to replace McDermott, call him a consultant or whatever and McDermott can get kicked upstairs to save face. Smith's short, sharp shock would sort out this group, and whatever happened behind the scenes at Wakefield the man knows how to coach.
As a temporary solution until the end of the year that would give us time to source our next coach properly, rather than be stuck with whatever's available (like with Falloon)
