We won titles with Kirke, Walters, Keinhorst etc. Players at a similar level. And that was in an era where the competition was stronger.

It's a salary cap sport, you can't have top quality 1-17 every week.

pitts , clarkson , the french geezer etc but most had a shelf life and donno and thompson have had theirs - kirke did his job of giving jp a rest quite well
