I actually don’t think Agar will stay beyond the point he still thinks he can do a job.

Coaching these days is a team effort, it’s not just one bloke. Plus even last night we had half a fit team, one busted recognised half and a hooker who can’t pass.

We might all be able to recognise those failings but who else would we select?

In the circumstances I stand and applaud Agar for what he has done for playing culture, the team and the club. He has a new team working alongside him who need time to fully influence the players post Covid.. This is not the time for change. We need a few years to continue our rebuilding and development of the youth. When we get to the Grand final and bring the trophy home………….. that will be the time to change the Head Coach and let Agar steer the ship as DR. We must not make knee jerk reactions simply because of last nights result.

Whilst Agar has done well he's also shown he isn't the man to take us to the nrxt level imo.
Some of his selections & more importantly in game Squad Management have proved to be at best bizarre & at worst clueless.
The fact we chased Flannaghan shows the Club feel the same way , however as a DOR he'd be ideal.
Our next Coach has to be in the mould as a Tony Smith in that he'll be strong enough to drop & mive on has beens & never will bes & replace them with the best Youngsters but still have the nous to gel a quality Team together.
The Squad is still carrying too many passengers on & off the field.
The crisis unfolding at the EELS gives me hope we could offer Brad Arthur the job or alternatively the Walker Bros Justin Morgan etc.
I wouldnt mind keeping Long but also adding Danny Ward to the Assistent role. The conditiining Team needs dismantling & rebuilding & i also think Chev Walker & Jjb should be replaced.

Yeh some bizarre in game decisions.
Why did Holroyd not come on until 65 mins last night when our pack were getting rolled.
Why did King not come on the other week when Tet and Prior were stood hands on knees, out on their feet.
Forward rotation is critical. Look how Saints used Walmsley last night.

What qualities does Agar have for the DOR role?
I`m not saying he wouldn`t be any good just curious.
Let`s face it with our squad for next year and the quality of teams in the SL Saints top with Cats and Wire up there.
Most coaches would get us a top 4 finish.

I think it’s difficult to judge the coaching setup on this year, haven’t we had 16+ different half back combinations throughout the year?

We may see Longs influence a lot more next year with the signings weve made

I expect the team to improve significantly with the signings we've made, and with the assumptions that a) we get the likes of Gale, Walker and Sutcliffe (etc) back from injury unscathed and b) we avoid the freak injury-crisis at the start of this season that saw virtually every player in a back or half-back position injured at once. That's all with Agar here.

Big question over whether players like Oledski, Walker, Broadbent, Newman, Johnson, Sutcliffe, Leeming etc need fresh impetus in the coaching department for them to fulfil their potential. My feeling is they probably do, especially if we want to be serious GF contenders. But as others have said, it has to be the right coach, not just whoever is available from the NRL, or whoever is available on the cheap...

Fans tend to like easy solutions to problems, e.g.) new coach.
Don’t seem to learn that This can be disastrous too....!

It’s very usual to need a change of voice / new ideas every few years in elite sport. We may approach that point over the next 12 months but it’s not an Agar-specific problem.

I suspect we are keeping an open mind and an eye on potential candidates on an ongoing basis, but it has to be the right appointment.

Read an interview with Agar yesterday where he was talking about St Helens high levels of consistency over the years. He mentioned that they typically change coach every four years or so. I did wonder if a four tenure (next will be his 4th) was his own plan. Maybe we will have a new coach in place for 2023.

I honestly think he’ll step aside if the right coach becomes available, but Agar is a decent coach with a decent team behind him already.

One more year though would see him, maybe, with a more mature and capable team to play with.
