"Brian McDermott, with a wry smile, nods when asked if he remembers a specific incident which made him realise he was a prick. 'I do', he murmurs."

Yes and that worked out ok.
Also happened to Sinfield and McDermott and that didn`t end up too shabby either.
But different people respond to the same situations in different ways. Also neither Burrow nor Sinfield were told to go and find new clubs, there were changes in their roles which is somewhat different.

If anything this reminds me of the Paul Sterling, Karl Pratt, Andy Hay, Anthony Farrell era when they were told they weren't likely to be in the team or were transfer listed or otherwise edged out.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

Ok. Glad he is staying.
If these players that are under contract but have been told they are free to leave, decide to stay and see out there contract there is little Leeds can do. Lets hope the majority see it as an opportunity to show Furner they are worth a place in his squad and not spit their dummy out. If the rumours are true we could have almost half the squad feeling that they are no longer wanted. I know after the season we have had many fans won't mind that, but if they are all still here next season we could have a pretty disgruntled squad.

That's why they don't train with the main squad - they train with the U19s.

Woody: Can I pour you a draft, Mr. Peterson?
Norm: A little early, isn't it Woody?
Woody: For a beer?
Norm: No, for stupid questions.

If all the players rumoured to be leaving stayed and saw out their contracts we wouldn't have the cap space to sign enough players to replace them. Whether they trained with the 19's or not, some would be required for the first team.

We don’t know who’s been told what though, certainly seems Cuthbertson hasn’t been told anything

I simply don't believe that Sinfield would be telling some journo that type of information before he spoke to a player. Maybe it happened in the old guard but don't believe that of sinny at all.

This is typical paper tactics;
Make story up that sounds vaguely plausible
Club then has to deny it
Player denies it
Agent makes comment
Club player may have been linked with denies it

Out of a nothing news day you have 5 stories. Journos are there to sell news, the truth is not that important.

Chat about the rumours to your heart's content but don't get your knickers in a twist until the club confirms it.

I'd rather the club was upfront and honest with players, but it could be an attempt to let them know by other means that they haven't been playing well enough - leak it to the media and see what happens. Neither Cuthbertson and Parcell could really claim to leading the team by performance post Sinfield's return. Sinfield made positive noises about the contribution of the more limited Dwyer, who at least seemed to put in the effort required, if not the quality. Falling behind Dwyer ought to have been a kick up the arris for Parcell.

We aren't talking about some 10 bob hack here.
Pete Smith is 99% GH's "man" & along with Phil Caplan virtually has the keys to the Clubs boardroom.
It's rare if it all he'll ever name a player personally unless its nailed on that the player named is 99,%+ named by the Club.
Whereever these names came from it was a genuine "Club Source" & it wont have been the litter picker or john the programme seller either.

All Smith did is repeat what other news outlets put. He wasn’t the first.

I said last week that the report said “understood” before the names, which implied it was guess work.

I suspect Sinfield told the majority of the players that the club needed to make changes, and on that basis they would consider all player movements to move on. I think the club will do that too, they have to. So although they may not have put some notice in writing to players, I think they will have been informed exactly what has been reported.

Speaking of Johns. Does John the Open Rugby seller still attend games? If he’s still around that is

Ah yes, the news came from a 'source'. 100% reliable then.

Of course the source is never named. There connection to the club is never revealed and when it's turns out to be total rubbish it is never mentioned again.

This is total nothing news. As I said previously most of last season's squad will likely be available in the right circumstances after last season, and rightly so.

All this bloke has done is pick some names, tag them in a legit interview with sinny and created a number of news stories (both cuthbo and parcel having to come out and deny) out of nothing.
