I work for some at the moment, but they're the personal injury lot. A bunch of greedy, bloodsucking pedants if ever there were any.
I do know that if the court has evidence that an assault has been committed, he pleads guilty and chances are he gets a lesser sentence (according to the changes brought in by the present government). But the nature of the assault is not known as yet. Common assault ranges from touching someone who does not want to be touched to giving a punch so until I know what he actually did to the boyfriend I am not prepared to say whether he deserves a jail sentence or not. Given that the violent entry charge was dropped because the prosecution couldn't actually produce any evidence and given that the assault charge was actually a change from the original charge of ABH, frankly I suspect the whole thing. But the law is the law is the law and if he so much as shoved the guy when the guy didn't want to be shoved, a legal case for assault can be made and clearly has been.
I hope it's community service at worst.
