Powell proving himself not up to the job and I'm not sure another wire off season of buying themselves out of trouble is going to mask that either.

With Mcdonnell signing confirmed we're shaping up ok for 2023. Rohan like he has stated wants to drop the average age of the squad and use players coming into their prime years.

2023 Squad options so far

FB- Hardaker (expecting new deal), Myler, Walker (still contrated in 2023)

Wing- Fusitu'a, Handley, Tindall.

Centre- Newman, Sutcliffe, Simpson, Edwards, Hardaker.

Halves- Austin, Sezer, Sinfield, Myler.

Props- Oledzki, Prior, Tetevano, Holroyd, Walters, Sangare

Hooker- Leeming, O'Connor, Johnson.

SR- Bentley, Martin, Gannon, Mcdonnell.

LF- Smith, Donaldson, O'Connor, Field.

Possible signings- Olpherts & maybe another prop but can only see that if one of Prior or Tetevano leaves.

People obsessed with Prior and Tetevano leaving. It's not going to happen. They are both under contract and unlikely anyone will want them. Who going to pay £200k for Tetavano ?

We proved against Wigan that our pack can compete with better systems in place. Personally don’t think will be any more in’s or outs to pack for next year….

Agreed, who knows Smith might actually be able to get the best out of Tetevano.

With all the talk of lots of transfer movement this week, we've brought in two young players in Sangare and McDonnell.
Good players they may turn out to be, but I'm a bit underwhelmed.

But I do trust in Rohan. He clearly is the real deal.
I still think we desperately need another prop - but looks like we will have to wait until Tet and Prior leave at the end of 2023.

We will clearly have plenty of cap space for 2023 and pretty sure Thompson won't get renewed, so we will also have an OQ spot.
Be interesting to see how this is used.
If Sutcliffe goes, which I hope he doesn't, it will probably be on a centre.
And after last night, I like the look of Olpherts. Would be a useful addition. And we are short on the wing when Briscoe goes.

Smith looks to be able to get more out of players - look at Bentley, Myler and Sutcliffe.
Hopefully, he can do the same with Tetevano.
He also has a game plan and tactics specifically designed for games. Who'd have thought that could work!!!

I just worry that we will still get rolled by Saints and Cats.
A game plan works for specific games, but I worry we still don't have the quality of players to consistently compete at the very top.
But we definitely have the coach.

We will be better next year and will probably finish top 4.
Still can't see us winning it with this squad though.
Love to be wrong of course.....

Looking at signings so far I'm wondering whether Rohan's going for a deep squad of good, youngish players as opposed to a thinner one comprised that mixes the odd genuine star with some now faded by age and fillers ranging from the good through the bad to the ugly. To a point where I'm not sure we'll see any really big name signings.

I think Smith isn’t into signing players for the sake of it and isn’t swayed by big ‘names’

I look at what’s going on at Warrington and even though they seem to be signing players left right and centre Im much happier with where our playing squad is heading
