Batman vs Superman doesn't fill me with joy - I absolutely *love* the Frank Miller graphic novel that I guess will inspire that particular storyline, and I just can't see them doing it anywhere near justice (no pun intended!) I feel a Watchmen moment coming on...

Box office wise, I'm sure it will do well - see previous comments!

I'd have loved to see them do 'Kingdom Come' as a movie!

It didn't - and I've made the same point before; but to suggest that someone needs to 'put a bullet in the Marvel franchise' because you judge that 'its going nowhere' is plain daft; subjectively up to your quality standards or not, they are a money making box office juggernaut and as such, won't be going away anytime soon.

It ISN'T going anywhere. Marvel is attempting to fundamentally change the dynamic of big-budget motion cinema by transforming it into expensive TV.

In cinema the idea is you achieve some kind of resolution. Perhaps it might take more than one film. But eventually you get to where you wish to go.

Under the Marvel paradigm the idea is to NEVER achieve resolution. You just keep extending it in all directions (often contradicting everything you said previously) thus robbing it of any kind of dramatic weight and catharsis.

Yes, I suppose there is a precedent already set with Bond. But Bond has always recognised the perils of over-familiarity. It never attempted to flood the summer market with two or three films each year.

To make matters worse we now have Star Wars arriving on the scene. Which will likely repeat Marvel's mistakes. Throw in Transformers and DC (if it ever gets its act together) and you've effectively killed summer cinema as we once knew it.

Signature
I wouldn't bother reading this bit, there is nothing interesting, witty or insightful down here, just this collection of boring words explaining that you really are wasting your time browsing this signature in the vain and futile hope that there will be a nugget, nay, a veritable goldmine of witticisms or divine philosophy. In reality, all you're going to get is disappointment, a sense of hopelessness and a random word.

I thought the Daredevil mini series on Netfllix was quite good for a Marvel adaptation, very dark, graphic violence AND there was a kind of resolution at the end.

I've not seen it. But even with some kind of resolution you can never be sure there won't be some godawful "reboot" in twelve months.

The comic book genre has taken on a nightmarish Fantasia aspect. Chop a series and two more sprout up!

Straight outta Compton 7/10

Quite a good story but at 2 1/2 hours long I thought it could have been condensed into 2 hrs. Loads of dialogue and drama. The tunes also sound excellent in cinema sound. Needless to say, don't bother watching unless you're a fan of 80s-90s hiphop

I quite fancied this, but whilst I'd enjoy the music I imagine that the dialogue is full of "F"s and "N"s and I'd find that a bit tiresome.

It certainly is - with a liberal smattering of pejorative terms for the female of the species; but I guess if they were to achieve any verisimilitude in terms of the subjects, they had to be realistic about how they spoke to each other.

I enjoyed the film - it has clunky moments when the story has to be moved along by a bit of dialogue that doesn't quite work, and the sympathies of the film makers are very definitely with the band; but it's a good insight into a movement that shaped a musical genre and is probably as politically relevant now as it was then.

I was always a Public Enemy man. There isn't a voice in rap which can match Chuck D's. Not a man alive who could out-mix Terminator X. And as band mascots go - Flavor Flav rocked the shop. ;)

Can't stand the genre personally, give me Grand Master Flash over all of them.

I do like Tone Lōc though!
