Where is this smugness coming from? A team missing four or five should be good enough to beat Wigan because we're so good?

It's the derby FFS. Wigan have won derbies with us at full strength and them decimated with injuries and that's with us having a better side than we've got now.

Who plays and who plays where doesn't mean a thing on Friday. It's 90% mentality and 10% ability. Kong will have whipped them up into their usual rabid frenzy and we've got to match that before the supposed superior ability becomes even slightly relevant.
