Little Hitler (Russell Smith) was in charge so it's likely. My memory is failing me on if we did though. We beat Wigan three times that season including the 41-6 result. I'll never forget that game as they scored 1st before we trounced them.

Not that day but I was more famed for my big swinging arm. The raising of the elbow was natural as with all good halves, it was coached into me at the age of 6.

Still makes me so angry to this day.

What cost us the title that season just as much as that defeat at Leigh, was the New Years Day derby at Widnes being postponed due to a frozen pitch.

We'd just come off that 41-6 thrashing of Wigan and the players were full of confidence and surely would have seen off the Comics. However, when the game eventually took place 6 weeks or so later, they turned us over quite comfortably.
