Hull KR winger Ade Gardner is considering switching codes so he can represent Brazil in rugby union sevens at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The former England and Great Britain rugby league international, 31, could qualify to play for the host nation through his Brazilian mother.

"I put my name forward and made a few enquires," said Cumbrian-born Gardner.
"They have got back in touch. It would be good to represent Brazil at something - mum would be really proud."
Sevens rugby will make its debut at the Olympic Games in 2016, with Brazil automatically qualifying for both men's and women's tournaments as hosts.

While Gardner admits his mother has struggled to explain to his family in Brazil what sport he actually plays, he is eager to transfer his skills to rugby union which is increasing in popularity in a country where football dominates.
"Rugby union is taking off there I think, there is a bit of a drive to get it going," Gardner told BBC's Super League Show.

"Fingers crossed something comes of it."

Gardner, who has made 286 appearances for St Helens, has scored five tries in 13 appearances for Hull KR this term and hopes the loan move from Saints sparks a career resurgence after three years of injury problems.
He was forced out of action last season with concussion, having previously struggled with Achilles tendon and knee injuries.

"I didn't want to finish my career on the back of frustrating injuries. I wanted to give it one last go and see what I could do," Gardner said.

"Thankfully everything is holding up and I'm feeling pretty fresh. Sometimes having a break away from the game, getting your body rested up and getting the hunger back for it is a big thing.

"I'm really enjoying my rugby again. Hopefully I can get back to some pretty decent form now and I've got a couple of years left in me."

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you.
Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.

Good luck Antonio.

Surely it can only be a player from Catalans. Probably the best RL side I have ever witnessed in this season's comp.

Surely there are better rugby players in the local Favela's?

Usually I'm not bothered about this stuff but... If you’re going to be a smart booty then please don’t put an offending apostrophe after Favela.

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Good luck to the lad
