Percival Potential : Sat Feb 28, 2015 7:31 pm
Early days yet and he needs a couple more years but I am liking the look of Percival. When he first came into the team, although he lacked the size and speed to make any impact I was impressed with the way he applied himself. It wasn't that he didn't look out of place, it was that he played like a player who believed he perform at this level and even if, at that time, he might have lacked some punch his effort and determination suggested nobody had told him either.Last year was his first full season wasn't it in the first 17 and a year later I like how he's progressing. He's physically maturing, his game awareness is sharper and it's showing in his confidence. It's not dissimilar to Makinson who, despite not possessing any obvious advantages to his game, looks like he has a natural athleticism that can push him further than initially expected.
It's certainly a reflection on our farm system. I remember when the kids started coming through who weren't carrying any luggage from facing Wigan during the late 80s/early 90s. Kids like Jonkers, Roby, Graham etc. It makes a hell of a difference when the players have that belief in the themselves and I think we can do a bit, as supporters, in helping them because there's lots of inexperience in this team. Even some of our older players haven't played at this level before. It's a long season and given how we sneaked home last night, it's going to have some downs before any possible ups.
Come on The S!
