Shame to see him go out like this rather than retiring gracefully after the 2007 Grand Final.

In all seriousness though, I hope the hip problem is just the end of his pro-sporting career and not something that will affect him long term. A brilliant player in his youth and early 20s and probably the most committed player we've ever had.

They are seeing a specialist in London.

So far attempts to make him 10 years younger and twice as fast have failed.

Credit to wello, he put his hand up agsinst the pies good friday already having this hip injury and knew it was a bad one.

The idea was to try and nurse thru the season without him having the op but all went pear shaped early in the good friday game.

If his career is over then perhaps thats a good game to finish on, in a derby game (although we lost). Will we ever see that quality of Full Back of Wellens in his prime, some how I don,t think so, even Saddened might agree with this.

I love Wello as a player and a person and I wanted him to retire after the grand final win. He thought he had more to offer but I think his standard had dropped from what we need.

Imo he should have gone out on that great night at old Trafford

Yes, I fully agree with that. IMO his season finished early enough (and he didn't stink the place out enough) for this season to spoil that swansong though fortunately.

Quite correct, go out in Glory, is there not a chance now to take him off the salary cap, feel certain he will end up working with the coaching team.
