The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you.
Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.

Re: NRL rule changes : Sun Jan 26, 2014 9:23 am
I hope Superleague adopt it, anything that speeds up play is a positive, Saints style of play always relied on 4 to 5 second play the balls, sometimes our crusher tackles can take over 10 secs with the added interference at the play the ball.
The new rules favour a mobile pack as the no of scrums are reduced, anything that speeds up the game will increase intensity, for teams that heavily rely on holding down and setting up a structured defence will have to adjust quickly.

Wigan wont like it at all. Quick play the balls, no tackles intended purely to injure players....

I like the zero tackle from kicking the ball dead. I also like the tap instead of scrum from a 40/20. Scrums are just a waste of time and new spectators often ask what the point of them are.

The one thing that annoys me the most is the interference at the play the ball where the defender creates a messy play by leaning on the back or leaving a loose arm in there. Sometimes the ref sees it as a knock on.
I would change it so that once the attackers ball carrying arm hits the deck there is no further contact with the play the ball process, if it happens then the play the ball is relocated 10 metres up field.

The play the ball rule is clear enough already; No interference. It's the referee's interpretation that is wrong. :READING:

:SLEEPY: Expected more from a mod.

It may well work in the NRL. Slowing the play the ball down has been a tactic used since i started watching RL 30 odd years ago and probably a long time before that. Defensively all teams do it, in attack all teams and their fans get frustrated by it.

I fear that as a sport if we make it too quick we will reach a point where the players simply can't keep up. Especially those from, for want of a better term 'lesser teams' resulting in more walk overs and demolition jobs.

Expected more how? To say it as it is? Wigan players are trained to do the cannonball tackle to deliberately injure opposition players. Maguire brought that in.

As for slowing the ptb, i agree with you. Its a defences job to slow it down, to get their line set. But the attack should be allowed to speed it up as well to catch slow defences

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Re: NRL rule changes : Sun Jan 26, 2014 11:52 am
They are all fairly reasonable. Personally I like the 7th tackle for the kick out on the full. I think it's a clear and easy rule to follow. A bit like the advantage rule that was introduced. There is no interpretation required. I think the difficulty with a kick going dead in goal is that you could have an awesome kick that stops centimetres on the otherside of the dead ball line. The intention was to stop in goal not kick it dead, but it would be severely punished if you went back to the place the ball was kicked.

But any other rule would need interpretation to decided whether it was a time wasting kick or not. This is a good middleway. It's not an over the top punishment for a kick that just fails to stay in goal.

Other than that I think that it looks increasingly like the NRL are wanting to do away with scrums where ever possible. Possibly because they don't like them, possibly to create a more stark difference between the two codes. Leaving Union with the scrum and making out League to be a more set piece orientated game.
