He doesn't seem to make a one on one tackle. It's always 2nd 3rd man.

He looks like he's coming on to the ball flat. He's not coming from deep.

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you.

I don,t think he has had a decent accurate and timed pass just yet. Also he was used as decoy too much there was one instance there was a narrow gap and the pass went behind him to someone else who was covered.
We just need him and the team to gel and become accustomed to the plays.

I get the impression we just want him on the field for match fitness at the moment and not so bothered about how he performs at moment. It's clear we are using him as a dummy runner at the moment but surely we will use him to hit it up when he's more fit.

Re: Catalans Stats : Sat Mar 15, 2014 8:12 pm
Last night just provided even more evidence that Wello just isn't up to Super League level as a forward. On the face of it his defensive stats are great and even I would never question his effort or commitment. But the reality is that he did 30 tackles because the Catalans ran it at him a lot because he's an elderly fullback pretending to be a forward. He can tackle, his technique is exemplary but any prop and any big second row or loose will walk Wello four or five metres after contact because he's not big enough.

35m from 8 carries over 80 minutes? Even those on here trying their hardest to justify Wello's selection will wince at that and admit it's not good enough. Flanagan or Wilkin playing loose for 80 minutes would have the same defensive stats (But with more impact) and probably be around 80-100 metres as well. LMS or Manu playing 13 for 80 minutes against dross like Catalans would top 120m.

Wello being used as a body and cover to enable players to rest is fine, him taking a spot from a player in any position, even the bench, who would add more to the team simply isn't. Him playing every single game this season now looks a certainty.

Laffranchi's stats with the ball are also absolutely awful, absolutely no point passing him the ball.

But this didn't happen, a couple of tackles he actually knocked them back. They did however move off the mark at the play the ball if thats what you mean.

I also think looking too deeply into stats doesn't often give a true picture, Manu for instance doesn't have the greatest of stats but he has a big influence on the games, similarly Wellens is the only saints player who is 100% error free but we all know he has only played 160 mins of rugby over the 5 games.
Wello had better stats than Wilkin, but Wilkin had the more influential game.

Can't really argue with that. People saying he did a shift at loose for 80 mins. So what, that's his job!

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Re: Catalans Stats : Sun Mar 16, 2014 9:08 am
But he did do the job as opposed to Saddened's skewed version where he gets push back when he tackles. I did not see that at all.

He managed more tackle busts than any other back rower.
In terms of carries yes he only did 8, but the top back rower only got 9. So hardly shocking in terms of the way we are playing with the props doing the majority of the running and the back rowers doing most of the tackling.

I'm not going to argue that he should be a back rower, week in week out, but comparatively his stats stand up to the rest of the back-rowers in the team.
