We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Re: More Saints Fans this Year : Tue Sep 16, 2014 8:09 pm
It's been an impressive year in terms of turning the attendances around. There was always going to be a drop off after year one. It's years 3 and 4 and 5 were you need to keep moving forwards.

Last year the 5,000 attendance vs Salford (snowstorm game) and getting only 14,000 vs Wigan on a Thursday non-GoodFriday dragged our attendance down massively. I'd say crowds have overall been about the same this year. Started strong but they fell away along with the team's form after Easter.

Saints attendances by game:
             2013   2014   Yoy change
-------------------------------------------------------
Bradford    11385  10238   -10.1%
Castleford  10943  12648   +15.6%
Catalan     11111  11321    +1.9%
Giants      12003  10218   -14.8%
Hull fc     11257  13448   +19.4%
Hull Kr     10820  11818    +9.2%
Leeds       12228  13788   +12.8%
London       9926   9408    -5.2%
Salford      5348  10391   +94.3%
Wakefield   12105  10708   -11.5%
Warrington  14715  12854   -12.7%
Widnes      11438  11844    +3.6%
Wigan       14204  17980   +26.6%

So not really true that it was good form, the Warrington game being thrusday not Friday, Giants not being the opening game of the season balance out the points you make. Whilst percentage wise the Salford game is up massively, it's overall contribution to season statistics is small. There also seems to be no correlation to early games and increased attendance, with the drops seemingly spread throughout the year. Regardless of the reason, were 6% up overall.

Weather has generally been far, far better this season. If you look back to last season we were all discussing being wet to the knee because of the rain and lack of cladding.

Our last 2 home games were poor but playing the Wire on Thursday had some effect.
I seem to remember the giants away support was very poor this season.
I was expecting the total figures to be down this year.

Kinda shows what I was saying... I would imagine the season ticket holders were about the same as 2013. And all of the early games were up on last year - cracking turn outs against Hull, Hull KR, Catalans and Leeds , then the crowds seemed to fall to a base of 10,000 home fans.

A good exception was the Cas game played on a Sunday. Almost 13k with at least 1,000 from Cas. Meanwhile other Yorkshire teams like Bradford struggled to bring 1/5 of that on Fridays and we had poor crowds with bad atmosphere. Something to consider?

Comparing Bradford and Castleford in the Sunday argument is grasping at straws. Castleford in a very good year have seen attendances rocket (up 10% ish I believe) Bradford on the other hand has seen yet more decline on the back of relegation. The figures we posted are pretty much in line with those teams as a whole - which would lend weight to it in fact not mattering whether it's a Friday or a Sunday.

I always think Catalans is a good bench mark for how attendances are doing, and we've shown a minor, but positive improvement.

As a general rule of thumb, any club averaging less than 10k is making a money loss on this season. Next season the extra sky money will push this marker down a bit but it shows how dodgy this game is economically.
