I HATE ALL THE PIES

KC on JT : Wed Sep 02, 2015 2:40 pm
Do people on this forum agree with KC's comment about Turner:

"JT was phenomenal against Huddersfield" and ....."We look a lot more threatening when JT is in there"

He did OK I thought but it wasn't game changing.

Finally and not taken out of context from KC:
I am happy with where we are at.

I'm not.

'Phenomenal' is not a word I would have used, but I think we did look a different side with him on in the middle. Huddersfield suddenly had to think about a running threat getting his hands on the ball. But then KC took him off and we went to bits again, so it's all a bit baffling.

I'm no expert but I could work out where he was playing, he seemed to around the ruck a lot? Was he LF, a second stand off or a running second rower?

He was, strictly speaking, on at LF, but basically he was acting as an extra half (Burns seemed to drift a bit wider and JT was taking the ball at first receiver a lot, IIRC) but also putting in the odd hit up. I'd be happy to see it tried again.

I don't think Turner can be a First choice halfbsck or loose but he does fill in ok when nobody else so decent as cover.

His spell in the second half when he played more of a 6 he was pretty good. Certainly not great but he took the ball to the line and that's something burns and walsh ain't doing so he made us more of a threat with the ball.

I 100% don't want him as first choice 6 or 13.

Ball-playing loose forward. Playing as a first receiver from an edge with both halves off him, or from the middle he'd be first receiver on one side and then split halves. Seemed to work reasonably well to be honest.

I find it strange KC waited until the super 8s to start messing with the team when the signs have been there all year.

Personally Id put Turner back in the centre and get back to playing rugby. We know Turner can't tackle but he's dangerous on the edge so let's start getting the ball to him and percy and try and hurt teams instead of playing this one up rubbish boring rugby.

He's got both his centres fit who are good with the ball, we have both our halves fit and also our 3rd pivot in Jon wilkin so let's get the ball wide!

Similar thoughts, I don't know why KC has started experimenting at this stage. KC's statements seems to be his response in self justifying his decision was a successful one, he's obviously getting a bit short on ideas on how to get his halves performing in the correct way.

On Turner why did he only introduce him to his new position in the second half whilst leaving him sat on the bench all in the first half, bet the Giants where chuffed about that, keeping our best attacking player on the sidelines. Last couple of games KC hasn,t used the bench very well at all, Mose,Richards and Turner introduced with minimum impact.

KC quoting "I am happy with where we are at." is telling me that he has lowered his performance expectations and as a result his coaching inexperience is coming to the surface, and the difficulty in turning things around is not giving much confidence to all. Happy were we are at....definitely NOT.

To be fair to Cunningham, we changed our setup at a similar point last season.

That was enforced due to the injury crisis at the time and not having any fit halfbacks; this year seems to be panic driven tinkering trying to find a winning formula.

It may work, and we can hail KC as a coaching genius, or it may not work and we can hope the season doesn't end too embarrassingly.
