Huge test for McManus coming : Sat Feb 20, 2016 12:46 am
Does he have the will and the courage to fire Cunningham? Last season was bad, but this season has started horrendously with absolutely no positives so far. The indications are not that he's developing and shaping a squad, but that we're slipping further and further from the required standards. There is no potential in this side, no strike players and a very, very weak mentality. The players at the club are simply not good enough for a side that wants to compete. Making it worse is that we don't have a plan to improve, we aren't trying to play the game the right way. KC has obviously spotted the players at the club aren't capable of playing the game that way. So he's compromised and plays this mind numbing style to make it easier for them. That is the key mistake. He should be playing the game as it's intended to be, in the style the Saints fans want. He should then be signing players to fill roles in that side, not signing players to plug gaps in the ultra-negative side we have now. Owens is a truly calamitous signing, joining a list of players such as Dawson, Tasi and Peyroux, whose signings are just unacceptable. KC is also coming out with some utterly bizarre stuff in the press. He doesn't seem to be able to read what's going on, and one thing this season has already proven is his inability to motivate the players. There really is no future with KC, it's blindingly obvious already. He's going to destroy his legacy and antics like his post-match interview tonight are only going to make people lose respect for him as well, which is a massive shame. He never struck me as the coaching type, along with Wello, he's at Saints now purely on his name alone.
So does McManus have it in him to sack Cunningham if things don't improve? The braindead few that remain positive would kick off and he'd be firing a club legend and it would make the statue massively awkward. I don't think he has it in him.
