What was SO different tonight? : Fri Apr 08, 2016 11:43 pm
So that's pretty much what we have been waiting for all season.

Two halfbacks running the show, kicking the ball well and actually looking to offload the ball and push the ball to the edge when possible. We actually looked like scoring too which was a nice change. Our passing was still a little slow, but the intention was there...FINALLY

The only concern again was some sloppy defence. Their try's were pretty soft, but I liked that we controlled the ptb speed as well as we have done all season.

Why haven't we seen this before tonight? Why was tonight so different?

I'd say playing at our favourite ground and being massive underdogs helped. Also, I think that Warrington started TOO well, but credit where it's due: we are slowly getting there.

Tough test against Catalan next. More of the same please

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you.
Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.

We saw a bit of it in the first half against Hull last week, last night the players must have got the vibes in the media that they were going to get mullered but responded and decided to play for 80 mins last night, Wire can't get the monkey off their back at the Halliwell Stadium. If Wire have both Sandow and Gidley missing then they are going to have problems, as for Saints Fages and Walsh will get better and not the finished article.
The win is a big confidence booster for next week. Chuffed for the young lads in the team.

I think the main difference was you capitalised on our poor play. That was the worst performance by wire this season and we only lost by 3 points. Given few more minutes it could have been a wire win. Don't get too carried away.

Don't get carried away coming from a Warrington fan lol.

Have you read this board? We certainly not getting carried away after the way we played the last 18 month.

Back on topic - I think we looked more balanced friday night even with the 8 or so we had out injured. We had more or less players playing in their proper position which helps.

Theo and Walsh seemed to be playing with more freedom and especially Theo who was more involved instead of Walsh doing everything.

Quite a lot of your poor play was forced errors by being put into a pressure situation with our kicking game and moving up quickly in defence. We had periods of poor play as well costing us points and I thought over the whole game we should have been 10 to 12 points to the better.
.
It will be interesting to see how your team performs without Sandow a couple of more injuries and you could be joining the pack. We don't get carried away with any win this season we are a Jekyll and Hyde team and will carry on being so if KC carries on experimenting, he's been forced because of our injury situation as St Pete says to give the team a better balance, we've got a few players who can play smart getting them to do that for 80 mins is our ongoing problem.

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

If a coach is going to experiment then early in the season is the place to do it. I have no issue with bit of rotation early on.
You have to use your full squad to keep everyone as fit as possible.
We used to rotate props each week under Anderson independent of form to make sure those who do the heavy lifting and tackling were in the best possible condition through out the season.

He'd still be experimenting now if it wasn't for injuries. Let's not pretend KC has found the formula, hes stumbled on it by injuries

Lets hope "Project Turner" is now ripped up now, there are a few players who have stepped up of late namely Walmsley, Amor and in my opinion Dawson. Walsh looks a bit more happy with Fages creating something different which means defences can't try and shut down the one creative player in Walsh.
Don't think we can get carried away though, if we can win our next 2 games without the KC tinkering then we can see some daylight of optimism.

Aside from having a second proper half (which is always a good idea) - nothing.

It's the same team which went out of the previous year's competition on a last second try by the eventual champions and won the competition before that.

The problem is far too many people are making a big deal over things which are inconsequential.

It's been fun.

Re: What was SO different tonight? : Mon Apr 11, 2016 7:57 am
It was Saints at the HJ.

You could field Blackbrooks first team and come away with a win.
Likewise you could field the Aussie starting xiii at Langtree and we'd beat you
