St Helens chances? : Tue Jan 30, 2018 12:07 am
Thinking of having a little wager on you guys winning it I think Holbrook is excellent and speaks v well. I'm not a fan of Matty Smith though this is the only thing that is holding me back and the signings Warrington have made are quite solid which they will improve think it will be between you lot, Wakey, Cas and Wire this year and Salford, KR and Widnes bottom 3.
Have a good season and always great to welcome you guys to Belle Vue!

It's dead on here mate, you'll probably get an answer sometime next week. Agree with what you say though. Smith shouldn't be anywhere near the squad.

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you.
Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.

We might see more of an attacking structure this season compared to the grind in the early part of last season.
Still need a good defence though, just have to wait and see after the first 3 or 4 games.

Re: St Helens chances? : Wed Jan 31, 2018 1:26 pm
I think our chances depend on two things:

1) one of our half backs standing up and staking a convincing claim for the shirt. Smith has big-game experience but has been below par; Richardson has loads of potential but has blown hot and cold so far. One of them needs to make the shirt their own.
2) The performances of Kyle Amor and Luke Douglas. Last season they both struggled, and as a result too much was left on Alex Walmsley's shoulders and our pack suffered when he wasn't on the pitch. If Amor plays like he can and we get a bit more out of Douglas then our pack will be in good shape.

If both of the above happen then I expect us to be strong contenders on all fronts, especially as we have Barba as effectively a new signing, Thompson and Knowles developing into top-class players and a touch of the unknown in James Bentley.

If the above doesn't happen then it'll probably be another 'there or thereabouts' season.

We will be in the Grand Final at the end of the year in my opinion.

It all depends on injuries at key part of the season.

However i am very confident that we will do very well this season.

We certainly have the players to be competing for the pots.

Re: St Helens chances? : Thu Feb 01, 2018 10:23 pm
It's all about the halfbacks. If two of our four halves can step up and form a productive and durable partnership, then we have the players to win the trophies. If we continue to stutter along with no real midfield creativity, then we'll be top four semi-final losers again.

I feel it's in our forwards we need a great season, they will give whichever halfbacks chosen the space. I'd have liked a real hard b@$tard in the front row.
