Flanno is a funny one. He does a great job in defence, runs good lines in attack but not what you would expect from an origin level back rower. If it was a choice, I would have rather kept Gilly as he offers more pace in attack.

Hes a reliable/dependable club man but IMO, not the type of player who should be taking up an even more valuable quota spot. If he was English, I wouldnt have a problem with him being in the squad.

Exactly. The timing of the contract expiries probably was the reason, but Gilmour is a far better player than Flannery and would have easily been worth a 2 year deal. That one was a mistake I feel.

Renewing Flannery's contract would also be a mistake. Players at his level are common both here and in Australia and it's not like we are short of capable backrowers.

We NEED some strike players. NEED, NEEED, NNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDD!

We need 2 things, strike and yard dog. Since the likes of Scully, Hoops and Talau have left, we've not had enough bash & niggle.

When Perry arrives next season we will have more than enough bash!

I was just thinking that!

I hope we are not going to be disappointed. I've not been that impressed by Soliola and he was supposed to give us some bash. He misses half the time! Hopefully Perry will be more accurate with his bash.

Our pack is excellent and will keep us competitive, but without strike players we will always be 2nd best in the Cup Finals.

I think you being little harsh on Soliola, he's not played much rugby over the last 18 month with pretty bad injuries. I think he showed signs of being a pretty good player for us.

Perry is a top class prop and hard as nails, he loves a punch up!

Soliola was an absolute joke in the Grand Final.

BUT in his defense he has endured a terrible time with his injury. With a proper off season and some proper coaching he should settle down into a quality player. His defense in the game against Warrington at home early in the season was superb.

In the game against Huddersfield he made some massive hits. If he can combine that impact with fewer air shots through picking his moment and being more calm about things he could become a big weapon for us. He mentioned a few times in the press he was desperate to prove himself and he was out to do that.

He will also benefit from the fitness a proper pre season brings, provided he has the self discipline to recognise he needs to get stuck in and not just bloat up in the off season.

He's prob trying a little to hard at the moment, he's missed all year and prob wants to show his team mates, coach and fans what he can do.

Injury is the main factor tho, he looked pretty good against hudds for a guy that's been out for nearly full season.
