See the RFL rated Saints academy set up as outstanding.

Only Leeds and Wigan achieved a similar status.

Academies were rated on the following criteria

Achievements of the system – the improvements in the performance of players and coaches over a prolonged period.
2. Quality of Leadership and Management – the strategy and vision of the Academy and progress made
3. How well Academies meet the needs of players- the welfare, education and safeguarding that is in place
4. The Delivery of the Player Development system- The approaches used to optimise the development of players through to your First Grade and England

There are four grades
1. Outstanding
2. Good
3.Requires improvement
4. Weak

Full list of rated academies below

Bradford 2
Widnes 2
Hull 2
Cumbria 2
Midlands regional academy 2
North East regional academy 2
Warrington 2

Castleford 3
London 3
Huddersfield 3
Wakefield trinity 3

Featherstone 4
Hull KR 4
Salford reds 4
Sheffield eagles 4

I'm also surprised that no one else has pointed out that our under 19's absolutely mullered Wigan 48-10 to make it a Langtree park double.

When people question Kashkow at Salford I think improving this score will be a big indication of if he is serious or just a chump looking for headlines. There's no cap restrictions on sorting out an academy so I guess it's a case of watch this space

It looks like it.

I think this assessment is more about consistency of performance than anything. At least that's how it read in the RL papers last week.

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

Remarkable that Cas and Wakey are both 3 and Fev 4 whereas HullFC are 2.
Yet the HullFC squad that played at Bradford only 2 players were Hull lads.
Half the squad were from Cas, Wakey and Fev although some had come through the Hull academy such as T Briscoe and Whiting who are both Fev lads and Crooks who's from cas.
Lynch, Ellis, Westerman are from the Cas etc area.

Best way to get clubs to improve their academy is to improve the "club trained" rule. At present its 8 CT in the 25 man squad. They need to make it 8 in the game day 17. That would make the sods work at it. Give them 5 year's notice and then 8 in the 17 who have to be CT. Also restrictions on out of area recruitment so they can't just hunt down the best and offer more money. Rather get into the schools in their own areas and develop local lads.

I think a number of people are not properly understanding how these ratings come about despite me posting a summary of the criteria applied.

A lot of people across various site have been querying how some clubs have poor ratings despite having x number of really good youngsters in the side.

However its not really about that.

Some areas have lots of talented kids available and will produce talent with little effort. I think this is the case with the likes of Castleford and Wakefield etc.

This rating systems is about how clubs manage and develop youngsters.
The better clubs such as Saints not only have top class training facilities but they also encourage the kids to develop their life skills by getting involved in the local community and being put through college/apprenticeships etc.
Players will have career pathways mapped out with personal development plans containing clear goals and objectives.
Weaknesses will be worked upon and effort will be made to improve the players skills.
The clubs management themselves will have clear strategies in place for developing talent and will set achievement targets themselves. If they fail targets they will review why and look to undertake improvements in procedures

The poorer rated clubs are probably just getting a bunch of lads together for a bit of Rugby, shouting at them when they lose and leaving it pretty much at that.

If I was a fan of Castleford for example, I would look at the quality of players that are coming through, and then imagine what talent would be available to the club, if they put the resources into properly developing those young players. It would not surprise me if they would be able to get double the number of kids coming through and being able to make it at SL level.
