We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Why??

It may well work in the NRL. Slowing the play the ball down has been a tactic used since i started watching RL 30 odd years ago and probably a long time before that. Defensively all teams do it, in attack all teams and their fans get frustrated by it.

True, I'm not against a slow tackle if it's a tactically sound slow tackle. ie players holding the player up in the tackle. But when it's players holding a player just for a 3rd or 4th player to come in with a cheap shot then that I cannot abide.

Also once the player has hit the deck again that is the point were the ref needs to take charge and get the players moving. It's got so slow now players lying on are looking around behind them to see when they need to start moving. If a player is looking behind them to see when to move, that for me is an indication of lying on and the ref should ping them, not shout move.

Eastbourne Warrior wrote:
I fear that as a sport if we make it too quick we will reach a point where the players simply can't keep up. Especially those from, for want of a better term 'lesser teams' resulting in more walk overs and demolition jobs.

I can't see it being anymore of a demolition job than now. As it is the best teams are the ones less likely to get pinged for lying on. The best teams know how to milk a penalty.

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you.
Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.

The play the ball rule is clear enough already; No interference. It's the referee's interpretation that is wrong. :READING:

We all know that the refs officiate to a different agenda and we get that word "consistency" popping up quite regularly.
Sometimes I wonder if they are under orders to slow the game down to stop the "blow out scores" and to reduce the no of penalties in the game.
We also have the problem because the touch judges don,t get too much involved that the ref in the middle has too much to do, can,t keep up with the speed of the play if they abide by the rules, basically they could be turning a blind eye to some infringements so that they can get a breather and get set for the next play.

The game a lot of the time becomes a borefest based on a "holding and kicking" game, the sooner it returns to a running game the better because this is what the Saints DNA consist of.

I'm a fan of the zero tackle after kicking it dead.

Although, I think it would have been easier to just say that if a kicker kicks the ball dead in goal the other team can then tap the ball as quickly as they want. I don't understand why the attacking players all need to be back behind the 20m line. It rewards a bad kick.

I'd prefer that if the ball was kicked dead from inside the kickers own half it comes out to either the 30 or 40 metre line.

They love a good tinker in the NRL.

Re: NRL rule changes : Sun Jan 26, 2014 4:41 pm
I do think the NRL should agree to have some sort of forum between themselves and the rest of the RL community, to agree these rules across the international spectrum.

Surely when the internationals are being played they could agree that the officials meet at this point and agree rules across the board. Having different ones here and there does the game no good at all.

Good job we only have one game in Australia this year then. I thought that game would be played with International rules and not NRL rules?

Other than that I don't understand why we would not like it.
