We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Not a pretty game they early season games usually arnt. Despite the drama in the Wigan game last night i thought that was a poor game aswel.

We won the game, 2 points and now bring on Salford.

It's clear as day that our strongest team when fit is Walsh for Wilkin, LMS for Richards and Thompson for Jones. I thought Wilkin was awful tonight.

Nice way to start a conversation.

It was a very dull and boring game, there is no hiding that. The build up and the start was great and then someone tried to tackle Walmsley with his head. From that point it was stop start. At times we were probably too liberal with the ball. We did throw it about, but in such cold conditions I don't think the hands of the players were up to it.

There were brainfarts all over the place, like Makinson kicking on the 1st or 2nd tackle.

Once the injuries stopped the penalties started. I think that has to be the world record for an 80 minute game of RL. Lasted well over 2 hours.
Even getting on the pitch they were late.

I did not think Catalan troubled us too much, but we did give them a hell of a lot of ball.

Even Cunningham said it was the worst game of RL he has seen.

I'm more than happy with that. It wasn't pretty, but early-season games don't tend to be. The important thing for me is that we showed a lot of guts when we had to defend. Our defensive line was very enthusiastic, to the point where we were giving away several penalties for offside. I can live with that, though, after our line speed being painfully slow at times last year. Our timing will get better. I was a little worried about this fixture (and also about the next one) so to come away with a win, in whatever style, will do me.

Some observations on individual players:

-Walmsley seems to have packed on some muscle. He was pretty fearsome in his first spell.
-Vea was industrious, but looks like he may be prone to soft errors and penalties - time will tell.
-Roby - ludicrous as usual.

No team will be perfectly slick on game 1. We beat a team tipped for top 4 and one we always struggle against. I'm happy with that

Shut up idiot!

I've not whining. I've stated it was a scrappy game and slow and that we couldn't get going for that reason. I beleive if the game wasn't so slow and stop start that we would have put a few more scores on.

I commented on Mose looking fat, it was a joke hence the KFC remark. So you think he looked fit ?

I mentioned the subs. I don't think it's right having robes and Amor running their blood to water while we only used mose and Sav in 10 min bursts and lance wasn't seen until last 15.

They are valid points scouse boy! Bunch of touchy old men/women on here lately.

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you.
Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.

Re: Well... : Sat Feb 07, 2015 7:43 am
As Dux has mentioned a stop start ugly win but happy with the 2 points against a team that look top 4 canditates once they get going.
We look better conditioned this season giving us the energy to get into the opposition when defending. Not happy with Bentham last night, there were 2 sides out there who were offside and messing around at the play the ball, he seemed very picky in seeing things from the saints players.
Early days yet, but I can see KC adopting D Andersons defensive plan, so if we can keep the opposition points down then Walsh and Burns can take care of the attacking options.

I thought Turner had good enough ball to have done better. I'm not saying he played bad but I expect a top qualify centre to do damage with the ball he got today.

Thought Turner was our Man of the Match with Walmsley a close second. Turner did quite a few tackle busts and off loads, he ran some good lines to make over 150 metres. Walmsley very similar but running in traffic down the middle.
Who did SKY appoint MOM by the way.

Not sure who got sky man of the match but I thought robes walked it. Can't wait to see his stats!

Walmsley pushed him but for me Robes was unreal.

Compare this to the first game last season and I don't buy the early season rustiness. That's what friendlies are for.

We should be ready to go (considering the WCC game) and we should have demolished Catalan. They were awful and so narrow and we opened them up countless times.

To be fair, the stop start nature of the game really suited them, we couldn't get our attack going as the game never got going from the off.

Poor poor game and I was ready for home at half time

Fair point. I'm glad I couldn't go to this one.
