If Gaskell has improved his defensive game, I think he could do a job for us at full back. He was on a fair bit of pressure when we had the Lomax/Gaskell pairing worked for a short period but fell apart when lack of experience built up the pressures.
This means Lomax going in at scrum half with Burns calling all the set plays.

With lomax and walsh up in the air at mo we are in a mess with futre recruitment

How are we in a mess mate? If Walsh chooses to leave, we look for a replacement. Same goes for every club replacing outgoing players. For what it's worth, I think he'll stay.

If the club feel that they need a replacement for Lomax then they'll go and find one. Hohaia' wage will go a long way to doing that.

We may have some signings that need to be made but we are far from in a mess.

You're giving Saddened a run for his money lately pal! ;-)

not at all like saddened mate.

Would you want walsh to stay as your 7 ? Don't get me wrong, he's a great player and we play great rugby with him playing but he's had nothing but injuries since he been here and God knows what he going to like if/when he's back.

It's all well and good saying lets just get another fullback but who? If so, what do we do with lomax ? He's under contract and counts on the cap.

So in your eyes that's a scrumhalf, fullback we need. Add Mose wello and lance that will need replacing so add prop and two utility players to the list and possibly a replacement for Josh jones.

Do you honesty think we will sign 6 players on next year? Not a chance in hell!

You do seem very negative at the moment...

Yes, yes I want Walsh as my 7, he had a slight niggle around Easter last year, and "the" injury - to say he's constantly injured is very harsh, it's not like he was wheeler constantly clutching an arm when on the pitch. Asking whether he'll come back the same player is a very different question, but only time will tell on that one...

If Walsh stays we don't need a scrumhalf. I'm relatively confident he will stay too. if we sign a fullback that's Wellens replacement, and if Jones goes we won't be able to replace him like for like, and will just have to promote the next one from the academy. That's down to 4 players signing which is entirely possible...

Walsh has had calf, back, broken leg, dislocated ankle in just over a season. He's missed masses amount of the season last year and missed 7 including this thurdsy game with the wolves. If say that's pretty injury probe mate.

The old "just promote" again. That's why we fell so far behind and didnt win anything for long long spells.

And we will 100% not sign 4 players. I'll tell you that for a fact. We will see 2 maybe 3 at a push.

Why am I being negative? I've give us nothing but praise this year apart from that bore fest in round one. We was excellent against salford. The win at Wakey was a real back to the wall effort which showed we have heart and a good attitude. The win at Widnes without lomax, percy, walsh, Amor, roby and flash was a real gritty performance.

Negative? Please explain

Up to his broken leg/ankle Walsh had played 16 games last season and its only because of his key position and profile it has got picked up. There are quite a few players just behind him who have injuries only Makinson and LMS managing a decent season.
We had long spells without, Amor, Walmsley, Percival, Lomax and Wilkin all replaced and we,ve got by, its probably because of fan impatience that he,s got the "injury prone badge" when in reality he hasn,t recovered as yet from a career ending situation.

He's got that badge because he has been injury prone. I like walsh and he's great to watch but you can't hide the fact he's been injured longer than not.

Comments like this just come across as negative, especially when combined with:

Were potentially losing a lot of players this year, and according to you were not signing many ... But promoting got us in trouble ... Like I say, just seems negative...

I only said promote to replace Jones. We won't be able to replace him like for like, as he's likely on a low contract, and has played far more than most players his age - a player of his quality will be expecting a much higher salary, and not happy playing second fiddle if we brought them in - so the best option is to give Ashworth or someone else the backup centre role. I'm still hopeful we can iron out the issues with Jones though.

It's not negative, it's being realistic!

When did we last sign 4 players on ? (First grade players)

Your talking of promoting players that have not played a single game of super league.

I can understand maybe replacing Mose with Sav as Andre as shown he can play at super league level but to replace jones with Ashworth in my humble opinion would make us a weaker team.

Next you'll be saying let's replace all outgoing players with u19s like we did in past and half them kids not here now.

I've already made my feelings clear on who we should recruit ;) I think we have a lot more cap space this year compared to previous years so 4 or more isn't infeasible - it depends how much of our recruitment will be done down under.

Ashworth hasn't played SL no, but the problem is Percival and Turner will be the 3 and 4 shirt next year. Which means a replacement for Jones won't be first choice. As we've previously discussed the options in the uk include Clare as a viable option, and Aussies will be on double Jones and probably not willing to be back up - so where do we get a like for like replacement? There is a difference between promoting someone to backup and promoting someone to first 17...

I'd be much more inclined to use the cap money to ensure a suitable replacement for Masoe than I would Jones! But then I'm hopeful we can keep Jones and lose flanagan ...
