So Quinlan scored an hat-trick on debut in a game we won by 1 point and played a key role in the winning try in a game we won by 6?

Can we worry abut the downside when it happens please?

Unless we assume the usual Forum response of "there must be a kid in the reserves who is better"!

Now I don't support Saints, but this st pete bloke and his 'I know everyone at the club so my opinion is more valid' posts are quite nauseating.

He's definitely a fullback rather than a halfback. Very solid with high balls, brave and a great support player. We've seen nothing in the way of a kicking game or him being good at organising players in attack so I have no idea why we would move him to halfback. I'd like to see him doing a bit more ballplaying on the edges out the back of second man plays, but that'll take time to come with him getting used to our structure.

His kick returns are a bit lacking, but I think that's more indicative of his physical attributes than anything else, so isn't likely to change too much. I'd be quite happy to see him hand the ball off to Dawson/Swift on kick returns when possible. Swift's strength is his kick returns while it's one of Quinlan's weaker areas, so we should play to those strengths/weaknesses

I'd love to keep him personally. Really like him. We need that backup merchant style player. He'd score 40 over a season from fullback.

I think the early signs are promising certainly. As others have stated, his support play is of a high level and we've already benefited from that with his tries against Huddersfield and his involvement in the winner last Thursday. You'd like to think that this will improve the more he plays and he'll score tries. Particularly liked his try in the Hudds game where he finished off Robes' break around the ruck. Looks solid under the high ball so far but again it's early days to judge.

Hopefully his understanding with Walsh, Burns and Roby will improve as time goes on and we'll see more of him coming into the line and threatening teams running off the guys mentioned.

Think he's showed some good signs in his first few games though.
