We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Re: Daryl Powell : Fri Aug 14, 2015 9:39 pm
Personally I'd have gone for him last year but did brown not have 1 year left?

So I can see why that did not happen.

I'm happy to give any coach at least 2 years unless there is a squad revolt.

No one wanted KC sacked a month ago. You don't sack a coach on form but on track record. Which takes at least 18 months to build up.

Same old sh@tty excuses from the same old regarding Cunningham. Every thing about the bloke smacks you in the face that he just isent a good coach. Poor tactics, Slating individuals through the media, poor subs decisions, same mistakes against the same clubs, poor recruitment. The bloke is far out of his depth its unreal.

Club legend yes. Good coach ? a big fat NO.

He needed more time learning his trade. It's come far to early. McManus needs to bring someone in to work alongside him.

I don't like our coaching staff. Longy, Ade, Wello all his mates.

And this strategy has delivered trophies in precisely how many cases? I'm just trying to establish some kind of historical record here just so we know you aren't making this up as you go.

I can't think of any...although I assume he means quality coaching 'staff' under him. Like Agar at Warrington. Basically someone who isn't part of the old boys club who has different ideas/experiences.

Nothing like this will happen though unless Cunningham specifically requests it. Who's gonna put their hand up and admit that. At the same time, McManus is probably a long term thinker and won't make any rash decisions. There were times during Brown's first year that plenty of us (including me) were shouting for him to go. McManus stuck with him and his faith in him was reciprocated in success.

How many champions have put a complete rookie i charge ? KC hasn't even coached a team at any level so he's learning on the job. That might be great for him but not for the club as you surely you can even see we are boring, clueless and no creativity.

Sean long his assistant is still a young man learning as well and not had a great deal of experience.

I'm not calling for KC to be sacked, ive never once said he should go but he's struggling and is naive at the moment. I think anyone with half of brain will say this job came to early for him. The plan was for 2016 after Brown left but obviously Brown went a year early. Kc knew last June he had the job by the way.

I'm simply suggesting that maybe a experninced head coming in for two years might be helpful. Simeone who's been there and done it and can help KC.

I don't see the big deal in that ?

I think the tough thing is how do you have the experienced head come in without it looking like KC is being demoted. Think about Salford: obviously we aren't a basketcase like them, but as soon as Sheens came in, people were saying he was head coach in all but name.

I would sooner judge KC next season rather than this difficult season for a rookie coach. He's not exactly had a smooth learning curve with lots of pivotal players missing also next year he should be more Media Savvy. We all know the job has come a season too early, he was going OK for the first 6 weeks, team was playing decent rugby so it was probably looking from the clubs point of view the risk was paying off.

Lots of pivotal players missing mid season obviously sent us into the "Forwards down the middle" option, now we can,t escape from it until our halves get there finger out. KC needs an experienced advisory rather than someone being possibly an interference, we just need to give KC a bit of slack and let him get on with it.

"Brian McDermott, with a wry smile, nods when asked if he remembers a specific incident which made him realise he was a prick. 'I do', he murmurs."

Re: Daryl Powell : Sun Aug 16, 2015 9:08 pm
It didn't deliver any trophies (very close though) but since he is the topic under discussion its worth noting that Daryl Powell was given Mal Reilly as his assistant during the period he was Leeds coach.

Re: Daryl Powell : Mon Aug 17, 2015 12:06 am
Powell was unfortunate at Leeds in that he was thrown into the job too early. He never really looked like turning the team into winners (despite what some Smith haters say). In retrospect its worked out really well for him, but I can't recall a case of a player becoming a good head coach overnight - and generally it seems to work out worse when its at the same club they played for.

Powell now seems like the best young British coach around by some distance, and unless he stays at Cas he ought to be the first name for any of the top teams looking for a new coach.
