Re: Saints 19 to face Leeds : Fri Apr 22, 2016 8:11 pm
Will someone PLEASE explain to me why Jack Owens keeps getting picked? Every week in the London amateur league, I referee better wingers than him. It's wing, ffs, we MUST have a better winger than him in St. Helens. We just must!

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Re: Saints 19 to face Leeds : Fri Apr 22, 2016 9:20 pm
God that was hard going.
Attack wise plaudits all over the field.
Ball retention wise very shakey, we looked like we wanted to lose it.

But big effort from lots of players.
Roby looked back on form going forwards, LMS did well, Lomax was a threat.
Percival made some good runs, Walsh took the ball to the line, Fages (who I thought was very quiet for 60 minutes) put in a match winning performance in the last 20 minutes. Greenwood looks strong, Vea did too although he lost the ball at one point.
Smashing tackle from Amor, Walmsley put in some heavy runs.

For God sake though someone tell Saints players that when Burrow runs at you he hardly ever passes the ball. How many years has he run dummied and then run again splitting tacklers. Just hit him, if it goes high fans will forgive because he is a diddy man, but just hit him.

I loved that game, because for the first time this season I don't think I saw any messing around at the ruck from either side. I think if Zak had stayed on or Amor had been sent for ten we might just have edged it, but no complaints here. We've obviously both got a lot of attacking talent and some really weak defenders.

Theo Fages was a cracking buy. A halfback who can take you through the next ten years.

Nice to see Lomax back. Even if I'd have preferred him to score only one. Better still, none.

Lomax was a threat all night. Very surprised that he lasted the full 80.

Roby had his best game this season, easily. The runs from dummy half were killing Leeds in the first half. The pack leader today, by a country mile, was Amor - he was immense. On the other hand, I don't agree about Walmsley. I thought he had minimal impact today. He didn't look fit - the legs weren't pumping after collision, and he was going to ground much more easily than normal. Tasi managed to make more yards in the tackle today than h's done in all his previous games combined (but it still wasn't many). Vea added the least of our returnees, but it was still good to see him out there. Greenwood still looks to me like he needs another stone above the waist. Percival looked very good in the first half, then he stopped getting much ball in the second. In terms of the halves, Walsh played the first 20 minutes, and Theo played the last 20 minutes. Shame about the middle 40!

McDonnell should be rightly embarrassed about the Handley try, and Dawson going off removed any threat from that side (and there wasn't a lot to start with).

So, Lomax. Two well-taken tries, the first being a cracker. But he looked like his legs were encased in heavy trousers, and on a couple of occasions, he looked as if he was not happy walking, let alone running. On the other hand, he made it through the gam without injury.

It was a mad game, and I thought we were going to lose it until the very last play. We have an easier couple of games coming up. Let's hope we can build on this.

As a neutral I'd just like to say, "What a game!".
Quality entertainment for 80mins, no doubt the coaches will look at the defence from both sides and cry themselves to sleep tonight but for sheer end to end drama it was fantastic.
Well played both teams

So exciting to see Lomax, Theo and Percival together. Bring Swift back and no fresh injuries to the above 3 and were a different team

I thought LMS was his usual gamey player but he always seems to pick the wrong line straight into traffic. I don't think he has much of a brain unfortunately. :WALL:
