He was very good for England Knights yesterday. Excellent footwork and pass selection. Also his defence was surprisingly good.

I don't doubt he's a talent with the ball in hand but at the moment I feel he's a liability in defence against good teams.

Will he be centre for Wigan ?

SP
I don't know. I suspect he will be the "utility back" similar to Ratchford at Wire.

Having secured Amor for 2014 from Wakey you have one of the signings of 2014 right there.

Slightly envious of the squad you guys have for next season.

Let Wigan have clubb and sarginson. They aren't even in Amors league.

It is expected Green may go back to the NRL end of 2014 so he may be an option for stand off. Others being Sam Powell and Hampshire.
Sarginson has played centre before and could be lined up as reserve behind Thornley on the left. Thornley played too many games early doors and his form fell away and was dropped. He played so many games as there was no obvious replacement. Gelling is a right sided player. Thornley though was excellent in the Cup Final and play offs when it mattered
As for Amor v Clubb, on the face of it and on recent form Amor is far better.
Let's just see how they both get on in 2014 after both having a pre season at their new clubs.
Based on last season I do think Wane gets far more power, passion, aggression and work ethic out of his forwards than Brown does from yours.
Interesting to see how Amor v Clubb go in their respective new shirts next year.

A fair and balanced post. With regards to Wane, I'm still yet to be convinced he's a great coach; what I do think he is though is an exceptional motivator. I honestly don't think Wigan have a squad as good as a couple other teams but they all play hard and play aggressively. What Wigan do have though is a great coaching team, in Harris, Deacon and Radlinski there's a lot of knowledge and experience for Wane to tap into.

I'm not sure Wane is great coach but certainly can't knock him, he's done great Job with three cups in two years which is hard to argue with but I feel Michael maguire laid all the foundations for his success.

They are still using the MM play book with "that" move the centre of all wigans attack.

Like I said tho, can't take anything away from Wane.

That would make Wigan strong favourites then. With Ratchford at FB and Patton with Cronk in the halves, I think we'll do very well without Sam.

Sure I read a stat that clubb missed more tackles than anyone in 2012?

Ermmm okay, dont see the need to compare, but I'm going to do it anyway! good logic.

To be perfectly honest, people will say the London lads are not good enough for Wigan. But if you were to ask me who our best prop is, I would say its Ben Flower. Gil Dudson is also a regular. How much would you have laughed if I said that 2 years ago when everyone was thinking Wigan were crazy for signing them.

Everyone bagged Smith, same with Green. Look what they did.

To me that looks like 4 key players for Wigan that have been written off by oppo fans too soon. Even some of our own fans too. Thats why I refuse to write them off until our coaches have a chance to work with them.

As for Wane, Flower, Dudson, Green and Smith never played under MM. Neither did Thornley, Taylor or Crosby. Thats a pretty sizable part of our weekly 17. All the players who came through the academy played under Wane and learnt their Rugby under him.

If you made me pick the part of our team that won us the SL title it would have to be the forwards. not 'that move' that we execute well. In the PO our pack was outstanding. Something you wouldnt associate with MM and Wigan. He isnt just a motivator.

(This isnt a dig at Amor by the way, he is a good player. Although I do think some are talking him up to more than he can be. I think a guy that can really lead your pack is Walmsley. He never seems to take a step back or get dominated in the tackle from what I have seen from him)

Wane certainly had a good starting block, and while he may not have a massive range in his armory, what they do, they do well.

The team are always "up for it" when needed. They are very aggressive, both in the tackle and in terms of line speed (without compromising shape).

Ball in hand, they are very pleasant to watch as they move the ball very well. Whilst you can accuse them of "only having one move" and relying on their star player too much, they make the most of what they have and while his play book may not be extensive, he certainly knows what it takes to win a rugby game.
The players the fills his ranks with are competent rugby league players first and athletes second. Wigan have the rather modestly endowed Daryl Goulding in the Centre - as opposed to bigger, faster guys like Atkins and Cudjoe, but he (like Carmont before him) is a good centre. Give him decent ball in a decent position and he will execute the correct play at the correct time - that is not a quality shared by all top RL proffesionals.

When they lost their halves alst year, Wane looked around and saw Matty Smith. No world beater, but his long kicking game is SO important to a side and he's a brave and commited little fella. Wane knew hat once he got him on the training park he could get him to run the moves for him as he did for Veivers/Long in that Smith/Holdsworth/Pattern triangle that was successful for Salford. Add a half decent 6 in Green and your getting decent ball to Tomkins all of a sudden.

We, on the other hand, when we needed a halfback, signed Lance Hohaia.

Another interesting signing is Warrington picking up that Russell kid who used to play for Wigan and moved to Australia. He will apparently be Warrington's long term fullback he's rated that highly.

If he's that good (i.e better than Ratchford), we could have signed him and put Lomax at 6. Lomax at 6 with no organisational responsibilities would work.
