| You will be OK... at the end of the day Royce has been an NRL coach.
we have Tony Smith and he hasn't had a top job in the NRL... so we are on the back foot already.

Seriously, it's not all down to Royce Simmons.
But when you lose against a hapless side like Harlequins... now that means you have problems.
Should he go?'"
Don't you feel a bit embarassed calling a side which has outplayed us 'hapless'? How about giving Harlequins some much deserved credit instead?

| Quote SaintsFan="SaintsFan"He had Cunningham and Gidley and a host of players as backup. We don't have those people anymore. We have one halfback who doesn't want to be there, we have a prop who probably doesn't want to be there and, while here, insists upon playing halfback; we have a hooker who looked brilliant for two matches and now looks average; we have a ridiculous winger in Meli and a hard worker but slow winger in Gardner, etc, etc, etc.
We don't have the team that Potter had. The club has sacrificed too many players.'"
Kyle couldn't even get on the pitch under Potters two years and also had Pryce out for the 2nd half of last season.
Gidley has been pretty much finished over last two years and has been replaced with a younger, faster England international.
Also potter had the ridiculous winger in meli and the slow winger in gardner.
Il give you the KC one as he was such a huge influence on the team but he's still involved with the team.
Im willing to put money on Royce not seeing out the 2yr deal he's signed.
Why can't you just admit that potter did a great job with a older team and a pretty serious injury problem.
I'd also like to know why foster who was IMO one of our better players at the back end of last year has been dropped for are gardner.

This is my final word on Potter because I have no - that is zero - interest in him or in talking about him.
The reason why I don't admit that Potter did a great job IS BECAUSE I DON'T BLOODY WELL THINK HE DID!
Geddit?
Good.

| To be fair I think that Saints have been going down hill since Anderson left. Think the coaching and the way the set up has been run is very unprofessional. They need a strong first team coach who wants to change the attitude of players and staff. The fitness of players has gone down since Apollo left. The determination of players has gone down since Anderson left.

| Nothing to do with any of that stuff in my opinion.
The simple fact is (and Wigan learnt this the hard way) is that you can't lose the likes of Long, Sculthorpe, Cunningham et al who were all top class players who could influence and win games on their own and replace them with kids and average players and expect to be the same force.
Add in to the mix age seemingly catching up with Wellens and the injury to the best player in the side (Pryce) then Simmons is going to have issues,as did Potter and as will anyone until a bit of serious quality is added to the back line.

I've been saying the same thing more or less for the last 3 years and had my head chewed off by certain members on here.
All this rubbish like we dont need to bring someone in to replace eastmond as we've got Gaskell, we don't need to replace Pryce as we've got lomax ain't going to work.
It would be great if we did just keep bringing youth through to replace players but you've got to be very very lucky for that to happen.
Over the past few years we've lost long, KC, scully, gilmour and not replaced one of them with a good enough replacement. When players like that leave who are huge influence on the team they need to replaced by top quality players not untried young kids.

I would agree with you about Long but as for Sculthorpe many of your fans rate Wilkin and whilst Cunningham had the heart of the team your fans rate Roby and maybe Moore. Should you really have got rid of Matty Smith?
Still think attitude of Head Coach also has a lot do with it. Look at Wigan last season. Maguire won the GF with only 1 new player Deakin. All the others were the so called 'mediocre' players that Noble had. He doesn't stand for attitude or slacking. Gleeson has found this to his cost.

But also, as you have just said, you only had one new player. We have had a significant turnaround in staff for this season, most of it out of the door. But that means we are not the settled side you were when your new coach arrived. Daniel Anderson did for us what Maguire has done for you.
