Re: Mose : Sun Nov 02, 2014 9:40 am
Mose is good if he's used correctly, i see his season split in 3

First 3rd he was unfit, big man coming back from injury

second 3rd he gained fitness but Amor and Walmesley being injured means he was forced to do more minutes than he can possibly be effective for but still showed some brilliance (wigan away was one one the best single prop displays i've seen. Dominated Wigan's aggressive pack on his own.)

Final 3rd. Came into his own, less minutes meant he could concentrate on his purpose, to smash the will out of opposition packs. How many times did we see someone tackle or be tackled by him and then spend the next few minutes on their haunches, broken? - countless!

This is pure confirmation bias. How about mentioning any one of several others that ALSO looked jiggered.

In any case - props are judged by the PURPOSE. Amor is more of an endurance forward whilst Mose's job is to suck in defenders and dominate the opponent's physical players.

Mose smashed Wigan's pack. He smashed Wigan's pack AT Wigan. And let's not forget him smashing the Catalans pack - which I believe is a better pack than Wigan's anyway. Certainly more physical.

You think Mose is a defensive liability. I'll bet you there aren't many forwards who relish running anywhere near him.

What do you mean by "proper" props? You've named at least three distinct types of prop (one of whom was a second row for all but 18 months of his career) - two of which would be unlikely bed-fellows in any pack playing today.

Mose is a specialist prop whose assets are narrowly defined. Judged on his own he's a weak link. Judged in conjunction with a TEAM of props he's perfect for the job.

There's a difference between playing to the best of your ability with 25lbs strapped to your back and not giving a damn. Maybe one day you'll understand this.

God as spoke to I completely change my opinion.

You'd think there never existed in the sport of RL a specialist prop whose physical size precludes lengthy spells and yet is perfect for softening up the opponent's big guys.

The reason Saints got away with having not a single playmaker to win the GF was a totally dominant forward pack based around four excellent props (a fifth when Sia dropped into the position as backup) which crushed Wigan's ability to generate yardage up the middle.

Backs make spectacular breaks. But the story of the SL GF has always been: props win pots. And Saints have precisely the right blend of props with Amor (and possibly Thompson) capable of playing up to sixty minutes with no discernible drop in quality leaving Walmsley and Mose free to really soften up the opposition big guys. Indeed, Saints' pack hasn't been this balanced since we lost Paul Anderson ... "a specialist prop whose physical size precludes lengthy spells and yet ..."

For me there were two key points in the game - Mose's flying tackle penalised by the ref which sent a message to the Wigan forwards in 20 point bold letters that Saints were not going to be intimidated and the final introduction of Walmsley at which point you could almost see Wigan's energy reserves drain away like water.

I'd love to say the game has changed, grandad - but Bradford were winning titles with Paul Anderson over a decade ago.

I'd say Anderson did, the second two certainly didn't, particularly Maurie. Mose is a great option if we've got four other props. Cutting him loose would be daft, we won't find a better impact prop. His physical size is a massive bonus.

He's not a patch on Maurie! He doesn't even come close. Vila did damage when he was on.
