The whole thing is a complete fiasco. Three tries given in two games by the video referee which IMO beggar belief.
In the case of Josh Jones we have the video ref ruling for a try despite NEVER seeing the ball grounded at any point. Deferring to the ref's hunch is a sophist's cop-out given that the video referee was brought in precisely BECAUSE refs were making so many bad calls. As for the other two - what next, grounding at the end of a hair follicle? A bead of sweat?
I keep hearing people saying, "You don't need control of the ball" without ever stopping to think how stupid
scoring without control of the ball sounds. Especially since Rugby League is a game centered upon ball control.
IMO it should be palm of the hand in full contact with the ball - all the way down - or nothing.
