I live in North Manchester, but I don't drive. Was debating heading to the match on Thurs, but the stadium may as well be on the Moon. Not an easy place to get too at all.
My recommendation? Tie a bungee rope to the top of Barton Bridge.
If you have to rely on public transport it's not so much where the ground is located, it's more to do with what time the game finishes. Going back to a 7.30 kick off would make a difference for me.
