Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. (Winston Churchill)

You don't have to be held in the tackle though. As confirmed by former head of referees during the Sky commentary, there only needs to be an opposition player's hand on the potential try scorer for it to be ruled as a double movement, so long as the potential try scorer has his ball carrying arm on the floor when the opposition player touches him.

It wasn't a try according to the rules. No need for you to be bitter about it though. We're not. :D

It was never a try. Defender was touching him so he can't make another move for the try line once his arm touched the floor.

It's an offence to do so, it's cheating (in effect - you are making an illegal move to score a try) so I can't understand why you wouldn't want a penalty in that situation.

Martyn Saddler commented about it in todays League Express, there is no way that should have been a penalty. If the referee can allow the player to play the ball again when he passes the ball after a held call then Burgess should have been at least allowed to play the ball. I can't remember if it was the last tackle, if it was it should have been a handover

What on earth are you talking about? It was a double movement, the tackle was complete.

You obviously don't understand the rules.

This would be Wanes opinion if Saints had scored the try. Since it was Wigan, it's an archaic rule that has no grounding in reality and should just of given Wigan the try... Unless someone in the future scores a try against them in a similar fashion, in which case it's the rules and it was totally unfair on Wigan ... Ad nauseam

If ever you agree with Martyn Sadler, it means you are most definitely wrong.

I think we had a similar scenario can,t remember if it was early this season or last season. We had put the ball over the try line but went to the camera in back play about 50 metres, same thing ball carrying arm hits the floor with a hand on the player, try disallowed.
When we saw Burgess go over at normall speed it looked a try, the replay showed Lance dropping off the tackle but Turner having a hand on him, so it was an easy decision for the video ref, the rules say no try. wane and Sadler can dress it up as much as they want but the the match being on Sky picks out this stuff.
One situation that needs to be addressed is the way Wigan attacks the line with dummy runners, its stops a sliding defence coming across, at the moment its inot classed as obstruction but it should be. If every team starts doing it, then the ref will be having a nightmare trying to work out if there is interference in the play.

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Re: Wane vs Brown : Tue Jul 01, 2014 7:08 am
It's always been a hand on the player even since playing as a 8-9 year old, if someone hit the deck, you just put a hand on their back and the tackle was completed.

Only Wigan fans could complain about one of the more long standing rules in the game.

Nice to see a certain Wigan player using his elbow to good effect again. This time he can't claim the player slipped into his arm.

Just nice to have a bit of niggle back between these games from the coaches right down to the players, it was completely bland under Potter and the early start to Brown but now he seems to be fighting back.

Good on yer Browny!

Yes Browny has gone up a few notches in my eyes, he's gone into Wanes World of Wugby and reduced Wane to a stutter and exposed the weakness that deep down inside that Wane can't accept a loss, a very bad loser.
